See a great photo or image on a website that you want to save? In this tip, we show you how to save photos from websites in Safari on your iPhone and iPad.

You can save photos from websites from Safari on your iPhone or iPad. This is useful if you want to use a photo as wallpaper on your iPhone or share it with someone else. Of course, most photos you find on the internet are copyrighted, so they are often only suitable for personal use.

Save photos and images from Safari

Sometimes you come across a beautiful image while surfing that you want to use as a wallpaper, for example. Or you come across a gif that you want to forward to a friend. Fortunately, you can save photos from Safari to your iPhone and iPad. You can do this in a few steps:

  1. Open Safari and go to a website.
  2. Find the image you want to save.
  3. Press and hold your finger on the image.
  4. A menu will appear. Now choose Save to Photos. The image will now automatically be in your photo album in the Photos app.

Save photos to other apps

Besides saving photos from websites in Safari, you can also use this action in other apps, such as Messages or WhatsApp. In most cases, you can press and hold a photo or message to save the image or copy the text. Often, the share menu will appear at the bottom of the screen, after which you can choose to save.

Sometimes the text you see to save a photo is different. Sometimes it says Save Image or Save Image. The result is the same.

Copy photos to clipboard and more

Depending on the photo, more options may appear in Safari. This action makes even more options possible:

  • Share: Send the photo immediately to someone else or an app without saving it first.
  • Copy: Put the photo in your clipboard. You can paste it somewhere, but it won’t be put in your photo library.
  • Copy Subject: Have your iPhone crop and copy the subject.
  • Search for: Have your iPhone recognize the topic and search for more information.
  • Show Text: Have your iPhone highlight the text so you can copy the text onto an image.
