Choose default music service with Siri
Since iOS 14.5, Apple has given you the option to set a different default music service. However, that doesn’t work in the usual way, such as when setting up a default Mail app. You control it via Siri. When asking to play music, indicate which standard music service you want to use. This no longer has to be Apple Music, but you can also choose Spotify or another service.
Set default music service with Siri
It works like this:
- Ask Siri to play an artist, song or something similar, for example “Play Billie Eilish”.
- You will get a pop-up which app you want to use.
- Choose Spotify (or something else).
- From now on, Apple will choose Spotify for music questions.
You no longer have to say every time that you want to listen to music via Spotify. Siri learns from your behavior and will now preferably forward music questions to Spotify. But it is not a real institution. So you cannot go to Settings > Siri and search to choose the desired music service there. That’s a shame, because it would allow you to make a permanent choice, while Siri is currently learning your preferences. But when resetting your iPhone, you may have to go through the above steps again.
Apple previously indicated that setting a standard music service in iOS will not happen. Instead, this interim solution was chosen. You also benefit from this, because you no longer have to ask Siri every time you want to listen via Spotify when playing music.
To choose other default apps:
