Apple has special Pride watch faces to show your support for the LGBTQ+ community. In this tip we explain how to set up one of the Pride watch faces on your Apple Watch.

Pride watch face on your Apple Watch

The Pride watch face is inspired by the rainbow flag and is easy to set up no matter which generation of Apple Watch you use. However, newer Pride watch faces are only available on the Apple Watch Series 4 and newer, as these models have less wide screen edges and the watch faces therefore look nicer. The newest strap is the Pride 2023 strap, which you can combine with the corresponding dial dial.

Set up Pride watch face on Apple Watch

The easiest method is to set up the Pride watch face directly on the Apple Watch. For some versions you can choose from several variants, for example with and without complications. Here’s how to set up a Pride watch face on the Apple Watch itself:

  1. Long press the watch face on your Apple Watch. Scroll all the way to the right and tap the plus sign (New).
  2. Turn the Digital Crown to scroll to the P. There you will find the collection of Pride watch faces.
  3. Tap the plus sign next to the desired watch face to add it to your collection.
  4. You can now edit the watch face (add complications, choose style, etc.) by swiping left and right and turning the Digital Crown. Press the Digital Crown to complete the setup.

Enjoy your new watch face! With many Pride watch faces, once set, you can activate some effects by simply tapping the screen or turning the Digital Crown. With the latest Pride celebration watch face (watchOS 9.5 and newer) you can make the specks move. Feel free to try the other variants to see what the effects are.

With some dials it is possible to choose complications, but with the Pride dials this is often not the case. Complications are the small information blocks on the dial, which you can fill with all kinds of information such as temperature, date and more. If you have a Nike+ Apple Watch, you can choose some additional watch faces.

Using the steps above, you can easily set up the watch faces on your Apple Watch. If you want a better overview, it is best to set the watch face on the iPhone. We will explain this in the next step.

Set up Pride watch face on iPhone

If you want more control over your settings, it is best to also set the Pride watch faces via your iPhone. Here’s how to set up the special Pride watch faces:

  1. Open the Watch app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap the Watch Faces tab at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Scroll to the Pride subheading and tap one of the watch faces.
  4. Choose the watch face that appeals to you.
  5. At the bottom of the screen, tap which complications you want to see, for example Agenda.
  6. Tap Add.

Make sure you have the latest iOS version installed on your iPhone! Usually, the newly added watch face will be immediately visible on your Apple Watch. If this is not the case, you can still select it manually. This is possible on the Apple Watch, but also on the iPhone:

  1. In the Watch app on iPhone, open the My Watch tab.
  2. Under My Watch Faces, tap the Pride version.
  3. Now tap Set as current watch face.

Pride rainbow colors for existing watch faces

For some existing watch faces, you can also set Pride rainbow colors. This concerns, for example, the Dial Numbers Duo and Mono, California and Gradient Tint dials. The effect is very different and you can also choose from multiple views and variants, as you can see below.

Nike Pride watch faces

Since 2020, Apple has also released special Pride watch faces for the Nike+ Apple Watch. These are exclusive dials that can only be seen if you have the Nike watch. You set it up in the same way as indicated above. The only difference is that as a Nike user you have a little more choice. These Nike watch faces are not available on the ‘normal’ Apple Watch.

Problems setting up Pride watch faces

Are you having trouble finding the Pride dials? This can have various causes. Maybe you have an older Apple Watch with a version of watchOS that does not include the latest watch faces.

Another thing you could do is restart your Apple Watch. This sometimes helps to visualize functions that were previously not visible.

You may also see the watch faces in the Watch app, but not on the Apple Watch itself. For example, we received a report from someone who only saw the California watch face in navy blue on the Apple Watch.

You can then adjust it as follows:

  1. Press and hold on the Apple Watch screen to adjust the watch face.
  2. Tap Edit.
  3. Swipe sideways to see the different customization options. At the bottom of the screen you will see the current color, for example ‘Navy blue’.
  4. Turn the Digital Crown and you will automatically encounter the color ‘Rainbow’.

Pride bands for Apple Watch

You can complete the combination with the special Apple Watch Pride bands. Almost every year Apple releases a new variant. In 2023, a traditional sports band in white with colored Pride speckles was chosen. In 2022 there were two versions of the woven sports band: white with pride text for the normal model and a dark variant for Nike.

To look at:

  • Pride Edition 2023: 49 euros
  • Pride Edition 2022: 49 euros
  • Pride Edition Nike: 49 euros

Previous versions of the Pride band can only be purchased second-hand. Only the 2021 version is still available from Apple for the time being, together with the newer models.

With the sale of these bands, Apple supports the work of organizations that represent the interests of the LGBTQ community. These organizations, such as GLSEN, PFLAG, The Trevor Project, Gender Spectrum, The National Center for Transgender Equality and Encircle in the US and ILGA globally, are committed to creating positive change. Part of the proceeds from the Pride Edition wristbands goes to these organizations.
