Add additional appearance or person
With Touch ID you can set multiple fingers, even if they belong to different people. With Face ID it is also possible to set multiple faces, but it is limited to two faces. For example, you can give your partner or a housemate access to a shared iPad. Keep in mind that there are certain risks if others can view your device and accounts. You can also use it if you have more than one appearance, for example because you work as a clown, living statue, spy or other profession, or if using Face ID with sunglasses causes problems.

Second face for Face ID
Setting up a second face in Face ID is possible on all devices that use facial recognition. That is how it works:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Go to Face ID and passcode. Don’t see this option? Then your device does not have Face ID.
- Tap Configure a different appearance.
- Now Face ID will ask to scan a second face. Follow the steps on the screen.
You can now unlock the device, make purchases and the like with two faces. The other person who can unlock your iPhone now also has access to all kinds of sensitive information in photos, notes, and password apps. There is no way to give one face more access than the other face. So be careful who you give access to.
Remove second Face ID face
If you later want to remove the other face from Face ID, you have no choice but to delete all Face ID information. To do this, you must reset Face ID via Settings > Face ID & passcode. Then you just reset your own face, but that’s a piece of cake.
Set up Face ID with a face mask (and glasses)
Unfortunately, you can’t use the second face setting to capture your face with a mask on, as Face ID requires your nose and mouth to be clearly visible during the scan. Apple has come up with a solution for that. When you set up Face ID (or after a reset), the iPhone asks whether you also want to be able to use Face ID with a face mask. To improve the recognition of Face ID with a face mask, you can add one or more glasses, for example normal glasses and sunglasses.
