Errors in Apple Maps app
Apple’s Maps app lets you navigate, find places, and view cities. But what if you discovered an error on the map? Fortunately, you can easily report a problem in Apple Maps, after which Apple will investigate and make a correction if necessary. In this tip you can read how to report a problem in Apple Maps.

Report an issue in Apple Maps on iOS
You can run into all kinds of problems when using the Maps app on your iPhone, iPad and Mac. From an incorrect company name to incorrect search results: the app contains so much detailed information that something is bound to be wrong at some point. And the road diversion has not yet been updated, a new exit is missing or the name of a company appears to be incorrect. Anyone using the Maps app can report an error or desired change to Apple so that the problem can be looked into.
There are several ways you can report a problem in Apple Maps:
- From the main menu
- Via the details screen of a location
- From the new profile
In the step-by-step plan we use the first method. Reporting a problem works as follows on the iPhone and iPad:
- Open the Maps app.
- Swipe up the menu at the bottom and scroll all the way to the bottom.
- Now tap Report a problem.
- You can now choose from a number of options:
- Add to Maps – Add an address, location, stop, road sign or anything else.
- Report a problem with a street – Is the direction of travel in a street wrong, is a street name incorrect or is something else incorrect? Then choose this option.
- Report problem with place – Search for a place (such as a store or a business) and then provide the correct information.
- Report problem with route – If you receive incorrect instructions during a route, you can do so here. You can report a problem for each individual route step. It is best to do this safely after driving. You can find recent routes here.
- Follow the instructions on the screen. Then describe the problem if necessary or add a photo or screenshot.
If you want to report an accident, danger or speed trap in Apple Maps, you can do that too. You can read more about this in our separate tip.
The greatest chance that you will discover a problem in Apple Maps is during navigation. For example, the app sends you into a street that is not accessible or takes you in a circuitous direction to get to your destination. It may also happen that while driving you notice that the displayed speed limit is incorrect. You can report all this to Apple.
Report error in route
- Open the Maps app and tap your profile photo at the bottom right.
- Tap Notifications.
- Select Report problem with route.
- Choose your recent route where you discovered a problem.
- You can choose to indicate a problem at your arrival location or at one of your steps in the route. Choose the correct option.
- You will see on a map the part of the route for which you want to report a problem. Choose the right problem. If your specific problem is not listed, choose Something else.
- If necessary, add a photo and description and I will send it to you.
Report wrong speed limit
If a displayed speed limit is incorrect (too low or too high), you can also report this. The best way to do this is:
- Open the Maps app and tap your profile photo at the bottom right.
- Tap Notifications.
- Choose Report problem with street.
- Move the cursor in the map to the correct location on the map, so that the blue dot is on the street you want to report.
- Choose the Something else option.
- Write in the comment that the speed limit is incorrect. It is best to report both the maximum speed shown in the app and the correct speed limit. If you have a photo of a sign along the street (which could also be a screenshot from Google Street View or Apple’s Look Around), you can attach it.
- Tap Send.
Report a problem with a location
You can also report a problem for a specific location. This works as follows:
- Open the Maps app and search for the store or specific location.
- Swipe up the location window to see more information. At the very bottom is the option Report a problem. Tap this.
- In the next screen you can edit information, such as the name of the company or store or the address. You can also change things such as opening hours and general information here.
Report Apple Maps error in macOS
If you want to raise an issue via the Maps app on your Mac, do this as follows:
- Open the Maps app.
- In the menu bar, click Maps > Report a Problem.
- Choose from a problem with map labels or public transport. If you have a different type of problem, press Other Problem. Follow the steps on the screen.
View reported issues
Once you have completed all the steps, your problem will be processed by Apple. If Apple has made a change, you will receive a message. You will then receive a push message that takes you to the Maps app, so you can see exactly which problem has been resolved.
Until then, you can view all the problems you have reported. This is how you do it:
- Open the Maps app and go to your profile. You can find this near the button with the figure or your profile photo.
- Choose Notifications.
- At the bottom you will see a list of notifications that are still being reviewed and issues that have already been checked.
Unfortunately, you can’t tap on the reported issues to view your report again.
