Apple has just given iCloud.com a facelift that has revitalized user interest in this cloud storage service. Thanks to this, a much more customizable environment is now offered that includes updates to practically the majority of tools, such as Photos or Mail.
Changes to iCloud were necessary and desperately needed. Apple carried out a slight modification to the iCloud website last year 2022 and it was a good manifestation of intentions of what they could do. The measure was applauded at the time, but it was still insufficient. With the change that has just been introduced, now it seems that something has changed noticeably.
A major popularity boost
One of the problems with iCloud, for many users, is that they do not find motivation to dive into the service in its web version no matter how much Apple is giving them free storage space. Those 5 GB of storage that are offered for free end up being ignored or used for iPhone backups. But the actual use of iCloud as a cloud storage environment and platform was still a pending issue for Apple.
With the changes they have just made, which improve the use of applications linked to iCloud, such as the one dedicated to photos, the situation takes a radical turn. And, from what we are seeing in these first hours, something is changing in terms of our way of seeing Apple’s service. Could this be the change that was needed for him to achieve the additional injection of popularity he needed?
Improvements for all apps
When you next connect to iCloud.com, you will see a very long message indicating all the updates that have been made. We are going to tell you the most important ones to give you a summary so that you can keep the most relevant information. To start, we talk about Photos, which includes two new features: Memories and Slideshow. In the first section, which you will already know well from using your iPhone, the photographs you have in your account are grouped into different categories depending on the theme. For its part, the slideshow allows you to see the photos in full screen to enjoy personalized sessions depending on your interests. In addition, you can take photos by selecting between different modes, such as Reflections or Dissolve, also altering the speed and other factors, such as whether there will be sound playback or not.
At Mail we have two new features. The first of them is the possibility of creating an email address with the domain @icloud.com from your computer. The only thing you have to do is open the email app and you will find the button for it as you can see in the image we show you below. Once you have it configured, you will see that another interesting new feature has been incorporated: if you make a mistake sending an email, you will have the possibility of recovering it (if it has not already reached the recipient, so you have to be quick). However, these days we are not very clear whether the possibility of creating an iCloud email account will become very popular or not. When you have created the account, yes, you will be able to import the emails you have in another, so perhaps it could be a good time to take the leap and renew your address without the drama of losing messages. Finally, Mail also now allows you to attach files directly from iCloud.
Thirdly, let’s talk about Calendar, which stands out with several new features, although the most important is its new notification system. This is also something that is available in Mail and other iCloud apps, which is a very good news because you will receive a notification on your computer every time there is something new that you need to be aware of. On the other hand, the general design of Calendar has been improved and now an identity control system is also incorporated that will combine it with your Mail account.
Likewise, there are other changes and additions to the rest of the apps that you will surely discover little by little. Is iCloud.com what we needed to get us to use the web version more on the computer? We have to admit that we liked these changes and that Apple’s application environment is becoming more and more interesting to us, especially because it is quite practical. But it still lacks something that makes us think about connecting to iCloud when we are on the computer and not use its functions only from our mobile.
