The messaging application par excellence is WhatsApp. Something quite common is that we are involved in various groups, whether they are friends, family, work, school, etc. It is not unusual to wake up and find them full of messages that, obviously, we are not going to read. We show you how you can mark all WhatsApp messages as read with this secret button.
Thanks to the arrival of messaging applications, the way we communicate has changed forever. Now, we can not only send text messages, but also audio, video or images, not to mention that they offer a call and video call option.
Although the messaging application, now owned by Meta, is the most used, it hides many secrets. There are functions or features that are quite unknown to most users. One of the most interesting is the option to mark all chats as read, without having to go in to read them and, in addition, you can do it in bulk.
Mark all WhatsApp messages as read, without reading them
As we said, you will surely be in several groups and, in addition, you will have personal conversations. It is not at all unusual to wake up with messages in several groups and for several people to have written to you. You probably don’t want to read everything, especially when you just woke up.
Within WhatsApp there is a function that allows you to mark all messages as read, without having to open any conversation. This option is very simple and has actually been implemented for quite some time. Not many people know about it, but it is one of the most interesting solutions it offers.
The process really couldn’t be simpler:
- Open the WhatsApp application, of course.
- Go to the main screen of the application.
- Drag down with your finger to display the “All”, “Unread”, “Favorites” and “Groups” filters.
- Once you see them, you must click on the “Unread” button.
- Press for a few seconds on “Unread”.
- You should now see a box that says “Mark all as read.”
- Click on this button and, immediately afterward, you “will have” read all the conversations.
Keep in mind that carrying out this process is a double-edged sword. If you have an important message from a family member or boss, it can get very confusing. You should know that the double blue check will appear to them, as if you have read the conversation. If you don’t answer them, they will understand what happened to them and you may end up having a serious problem.
Something we recommend is to review the conversations and open those that are important, as well as respond, if necessary. For the rest, which will surely be groups with dozens of messages, you can choose to use the “mark all as read” function.
The feature is only available on the Android and iOS versions of the messaging app. It is not available in the web and desktop versions, at least for now. Although well, the usual thing is to use the smartphone version, not the computer version.
As they say, “with great power comes great responsibility.” Use this feature wisely and always with great caution, which can sometimes cost us some displeasure or anger.
