We all have important events, tasks and/or appointments written down on a calendar. Many times we use one on paper, but more and more people use Google Calendar, a very interesting option because we carry it in our pocket. But, you can also have a calendar, much more complete and with more possibilities with Microsoft Excel and we are going to explain how to do it.
As we have mentioned, you have Google Calendar or the service that Apple offers. The truth is that there are many types of applications and websites that offer this function, but they may not be properly adapted to our needs.
The Excel tool can be a perfect solution to develop a calendar that adapts to our needs. We have the option to create a daily, weekly or monthly schedule. In addition, we can add links between pages, adjust cell colors and a huge number of other functions.
Let’s see the different options we have, starting from the simplest to creating a completely personalized Excel sheet adapted to our needs.
Use calendar templates
As you well know, there are a large number of different templates for all Microsoft Office programs. It was not going to be less Excel, which has a large number of templates. Within them we have calendar-type templates, which allow us to save time when creating a calendar.
Accessing these templates is extremely simple, we do not need third-party websites. Simply follow these steps:
- Start Excel
- When it opens, in the left column, click on “New.”
- Now, in the search engine write “Calendar” and enter the entry.
- A large number of different calendars will appear.
If you click on any of them, you will see a preview of the template in question. In addition, you will see a small description of it and even the weight of the template. You can load any of them and then edit it to your liking, changing colors, cell sizes and any other aspect you want.
Create a calendar in Excel from scratch
Another option is, of course, to create your own calendar from scratch. This option offers us all the control from the first moment and is not complex, unless we want a certain degree of automation. We are going to explain how to create a calendar in Excel from scratch. You must follow these steps:
- Open a blank workbook in Excel.
- We reserve the first row for the month. Go to the first row and the first column and add this command: =TEXT(TODAY(), “mmmm”)
- In the second row and starting from the first column, we will write the days of the week. You can also write “Monday” and drag to the right, you will see that it fills it in automatically.
- Select all the cells in the same row of the month until you are above Sunday and combine them.
Now, we have the first part done, but there is still a long way to go to finish the calendar. Let’s go with the following steps:
- We select all cells from “A3” to “G8”.
- We have to be in the “Home” section.
- We look for the “Cells” option within the taskbar.
- Click to display the “Format” menu.
- Next, we must adjust the height of the row and width of the column to taste.
After this, it is time to give it a layer of customization. Let’s now apply colors and also adjust the borders. To do this, follow these steps:
- We select the month and in the start section, we set the cell fill color and the text color. We can also increase the font size, change the font or make it bold.
- Now, we select the days and we can repeat the customization process adjusting all the aspects discussed above.
- We can also customize the color of the lower cells.
- Now, we are going to select, if we want, all the cells and we will apply a border to them. This is also in the “Home” tab next to the bold option.
- The next step is to fill in all the cells with the month number.
The next thing we will do is duplicate the sheet so we don’t have to start the process again. It would just be changing the days and that’s it. To do this, follow these steps:
- In the lower tab we have the active sheet and we must right click on it.
- A drop-down menu opens with different options, we have to click on “Move or copy”.
- We mark the option “Create a copy”.
- We click on “Accept”.
Finally, we are going to print the sheet, something that is totally optional. We have the option of filling out the Excel sheet or printing it, to fill it in manually and always have it accessible. To do this you must follow these steps:
- You have to click on the “File” option.
- Look in the left column for the “Print” option.
- Change the orientation from “Vertical” to “Horizontal”.
- It is also important to change the “No scaling” option and change it to “Fit sheet on one page” or “Fit all columns on one page” so that it is not cut off and everything is within the same sheet.
- Next, at the end of the options you will see “Configure page” and click.
- Inside the new window go to the “Sheet” tab.
- Now check the “Division Lines” box and “OK”.
- We click “Accept” and print.
Now you can print all the calendar sheets without problems and you will be able to write inside them.
