A problem at the cybersecurity company CrowStrike has caused hundreds of companies around the world to see their services completely paralyzed for hours. The failure began after an update was carried out that ended up causing the Microsoft cloud to crash. Luckily, there is a solution to fix the Windows blue screen.
This is not the first time, and probably won’t be the last, that you’ll have to deal with the dreaded Windows blue screen of death. It’s certainly one of the problems that no user wants to face, but on occasions like today, there’s no other choice but to apply this solution if you want to recover your PC. And it’s not something you’ve done wrong on the computer, but this particular problem is due to a CrowdStrike bug.

End the CrowdStrike problem on PC
There are several reasons that may be behind the Windows blue screen, also known as Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). In this case, it is the problem reported by CrowdStrike following an update. Therefore, if you are unable to recover your computer once this failure has appeared in the operating system, then these are the keys you should follow to end the problem:
- Start Windows in Safe Mode: You can try turning your PC on and off several times using the power button to bring up the recovery menu, Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- Once you restart your PC, you will see a list of options. Press 4 or press F4 to start the computer in this mode.
- Go to File Explorer in Windows, once in Safe Mode, to find the CrowdStrike folder: C:WindowsSystem32driversCrowdStrike
- Inside this folder, you will need to find a specific file and delete it: C-00000291*.sys (it must match this file name).
- Finally, restart your computer as you normally do.
It should be noted that this solution is temporary, as the company in question is already deploying a definitive solution so that this problem with the Windows blue screen does not continue to occur. And, above all, in case this method does not help you recover the PC from the screen of death, then you will have no other option than to wait for the next update from the company. Therefore, you must be patient for a definitive alternative to end this problem for the Microsoft operating system.
I have not been able to enter Windows Safe Mode
If you’ve had trouble accessing Safe Mode or Recovery Mode to see the recovery options, you have two more alternatives available:
- Hold the power button for 10 seconds to turn it off completely and then press it again, when the manufacturer’s logo appears, you will have to hold it down for another 10 seconds to turn it off again. Then, you will have to press the start button again and hold the Windows start key for 10 seconds. After that, you will only have to turn it back on to bring up the recovery menu.
- Or on the other hand, if your computer is older during startup, you will have to repeatedly press the F8 (or Shift + F8) key on your keyboard during PC startup when the manufacturer’s logo appears.
