Multiple photos at the same time in your Instagram Story
Previously, you needed Instagram’s separate Layout app to create Instagram collages. This app has been discontinued because the function is already included as standard in the Instagram app. You can add up to six photos to your collage, using existing or new photos.

Photo Collage Instagram Story with Layout
Here’s how to create a collage with multiple photos using Instagram Layout:
- Open the Instagram app and start a new Instagram Story.
- Tap the options on the side of the screen and choose Layout.
- Choose one of the available photo collages, with 2 to 6 photos.
- Take photos or tap the bottom left to use photos from the camera roll.
- When you’re done, publish your Story as usual.
There are some limitations. For example, after choosing existing photos, you can no longer change the order or move the photo slightly. So make sure you have a photo (portrait or landscape) that clearly shows your subject in the frame. If necessary, you can use the back button to remove and replace a photo that does not fit so well.
A disadvantage of this layout function is that there are no frames between the images. As a result, it is sometimes difficult to see where one photo ends and the next begins. You can solve this by using a photo collage app such as InShot. This of course means an extra step.
Trick: Insert photo-in-photo into Instagram Story
There are even more options for putting multiple photos in an Instagram Story, without needing a separate app. This way you can add more photos to an existing photo. To do this, tap the option indicated in the images below. Choose a second image and move it to the desired spot on the photo. You can also make the second photo larger or smaller. If you use a plain white or black image as a background, you can also create a layout with frames or a collage of randomly placed photos in this way.
