When choosing one operator or another, there are small details that can make the difference. It is true that these will not always be key factors, but they are small points that can help you decide when you are looking to change your mobile line operator. For example, Movistar and Vodafone customers enjoy an advantage that they do not have with Digi or O2.
If you are one of those who do not have an unlimited mobile line, once you finish the data plan you have contracted, the connection speed will not be the same. It can be 64 Kbps or 128 Kbps, however, there are operators that give you a minimum of 2 Mbps. So, if this is the case, things change for the better. And all because with this minimum connection speed you will be able to do several things with the Internet on your phone.
The 2 Mbps on Movistar and Vodafone
Customers who do not have an unlimited data plan with Movistar or Vodafone are lucky enough to enjoy a reduced speed of 2 Mbps when they use up all the available GB during the billing month.
For example, if you have contracted the mobile-only plan with 20 GB at maximum 5G+ speed with Movistar, once you consume that amount of data, the blue operator gives you this service: ‘Once the data at maximum speed is reached, the Customer will continue browsing unlimitedly at a maximum speed of 2Mb at no additional cost’. And the same happens with Vodafone, as the red operator explains the following in its conditions: ‘100GB at maximum speed with 5G technology up to 1Gbps download and up to 150Mbps upload. Once the 100GB of the rate is consumed, unlimited browsing at 2Mbps speed’.
However, there is also a small difference between these two operators. At Movistar, all plans with limited data can enjoy a reduced speed of 2 Mbps. However, at Vodafone, the contract plan with 50 GB only has a reduced speed of 128 Kbps available, while the options with 100 GB and 200 GB have the 2 Mbps. In any case, these two operators offer this advantage.
A reduced speed of 128 Kbps
What about Digi and O2? Well, neither of them offer this reduced speed. Digi offers an additional 5 GB at low speed so that customers can continue browsing the Internet (except for the 3 GB plan, which has 1.5 GB). In this case, when the contracted bonus is used up, the speed drops to 128 Kbps: “5 GB non-cumulative for mobile Internet at a reduced speed of 128 Kbps, once the data volume of the plan has been used up.”
And that is exactly what happens with O2. Even though it is Telefónica’s second brand in Spain, the low-cost operator offers a reduced speed of 128 Kbps in each of its mobile plans. In addition, it is important to note that this operator does not have a mobile plan with unlimited gigabytes. As for the conditions, for example, we have selected what is stated in the contract for its top mobile plan with 150 GB: ‘If you use up the 150 GB of data on your mobile plan, the speed will automatically be reduced so that you can continue making data communications at a speed of 128 Kbps, at no additional cost’.
