If we talk about WhatsApp, we are talking about an application that is used in practically all countries in the world and that has become an ideal communication platform for calling and sending messages. However, this platform does not offer us the privacy that we may need or want to enjoy at all times.

The default settings related to privacy of this application are tailored to a social network, where everyone can see our profile picture, our status, when we have logged in to much more.

Unfortunately, many users do not care about privacy and expose this type of information to anyone they communicate with through the application. However, from the application’s configuration options, we can make a series of adjustments so that WhatsApp is an application that really cares about our privacy.

Increase your privacy on WhatsApp with these settings

If you want to know how you should configure WhatsApp to respect your privacy, below we show you the sections you must configure to achieve this.

WhatsApp profile photo

  • The first thing we must do is prevent anyone, neither our contacts nor third parties, from knowing when was the last time we interacted with the application. This function is found within the section Privacy> Last time time and Online and where we must select Nobody.
  • We can also configure WhatsApp so that only our contacts can access our WhatsApp photo so we can show any image with confidence. This option is within the section Privacy> Profile photos and where we must select My contacts.
  • In addition, we can also hide the information displayed in our profile by limiting it to our contacts or anyone who has our phone number. This option is available within the section Privacy> Info.
  • If we usually like to modify our status on WhatsApp, the application also allows us to configure who we want it to be shown, although we cannot hide it from everyone, but we can select who to do it with or exclude a series of contacts from the agenda. We find this option within Privacy> State privacy.
  • To prevent someone from knowing that we have read a message, WhatsApp allows us to deactivate the reading confirmation, however, if we do so, we will not be able to enjoy this function either. It is, we could say it, a nice measure, if you don’t want anyone to know that you have read their messages, you won’t know it either. This option is available within the section Privacy> Read confirmation. We can leave this function activated and read the messages from the notification we receive on our mobile phone so no one will know when they have been read without having to deactivate this function.
  • The WhatsApp Temporary Messages function allows us to establish how long the messages we send through WhatsApp will be displayed, both in personal and group chats. The minimum time we can set for messages to be deleted is 24 hours and the maximum is 90 days. This feature is available within Privacy > Temporary Messages and affects all members of the chat, not just our messages.
  • WhatsApp also includes an option that allows us to prevent anyone from adding us to a group without our permission, a function found within the Privacy > Groups options.
  • Avoid calls through WhatsApp from strangers by activating this function available in Privacy > Calls. When you activate this feature, calls you receive with a phone number that you do not have stored in your contacts will be silenced and will not ring and only a notification will be displayed.
  • Hide the IP of your calls so that no one can know your real location. This feature, recently added to WhatsApp, slightly reduces the quality of calls when passing through WhatsApp servers. This feature is available through the Privacy > Advanced settings.
