Activate Siri on Mac with key combination
The digital assistant Siri can also be used on the Mac. You can activate it in several ways: by clicking the Siri icons in the menu bar and dock or by making a voice command. Here we discuss an alternative way, namely activating Siri with a Mac key combination. If you are used to using key combinations often, this is a faster way than clicking an icon. Moreover, this saves space in your menu bar. By default, you activate Siri by pressing and holding the Command button and the space bar simultaneously. But you can also choose a different key combination.
Activate Siri on Mac
You can set up a shortcut for Siri on Mac with these steps:
- Go to System Preferences > Siri (macOS Monterey and earlier) or System Settings > Siri & Spotlight (macOS Ventura and later).
- In the Key Combination section you will see a number of options, namely Hold Command + Space, Hold Option + Space and Press Fn (Function) + Space. Choose one of the options provided or click on the Customize option to create your own key combination.
- Enter the desired key combination and you’re done.
When entering your own key combination, it is smart to choose something that you can easily remember and that does not overwrite an existing shortcut. So choose something unique, but don’t make it too complicated. A combination of two keys makes the most sense.
Now that you’ve set up a key combination for Siri, you can remove the Siri icons from the menu bar and dock because you no longer need them.
