We are used to seeing security flaws that affect operating systems, applications or drivers. It is important to correct them, since otherwise we could leave the door open for cybercriminals to steal data or passwords. In this article, we discuss a series of bugs that affect Windows and that have just been corrected. One of them, especially, is serious. We are going to explain to you what you should do.
The goal is always to keep the equipment in the best possible condition. This means that you must make sure that it is well updated, you use security applications and do not make mistakes that could give attackers an opportunity. By simply making a few adjustments, you can gain a lot in security.
Windows fixes multiple bugs
Specifically, it has corrected 71 security flaws and a zero-day vulnerability that was being exploited. As usually happens, on the second Tuesday of each month Microsoft releases security updates to correct vulnerabilities they have detected. Sometimes they are minor, specific failures, but they can also be highly serious.
The zero-day vulnerability has been registered as CVE-2024-49138. Allows escalation of common log file system driver privileges. Basically, an attacker could gain system privileges on Windows. Although they have not reported how they have managed to exploit this failure, they have indicated that it has occurred.
The corrected errors, depending on the category, are the following:
- 27 Elevation of Privilege Vulnerabilities
- 30 Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities
- 7 information disclosure vulnerabilities
- 5 denial of service vulnerabilities
- 1 phishing vulnerability
We really are not facing something out of the ordinary, since every month we see vulnerabilities of this type. It is always advisable to correct them as soon as possible, especially if you use your equipment in certain risk environments. Protecting the information you store will be key to avoiding problems.
Update
Correcting these problems is as simple as updating. To do this, you have to go to Start, enter Settings and go to Windows Update. It will automatically start checking whether or not there are new updates that you can install. It is a quick process and you will be able to check if you have the latest version or, on the contrary, it is necessary to update.
Ideally, you should not leave updates pending installation. There is the option to pause them, in case, for something specific, you do not want them to download. This can happen if, for example, you are going to be connected to a network with low speed for a while or you are going to use mobile data and you do not want it to run out.
Not only should you check if you have the operating system, such as Windows, updated; It is also advisable that you verify it with other applications that you use, such as the browser, extensions, programs that you use on a daily basis, etc. This will be key for them to work well, in addition to avoiding security problems.
In short, we recommend that you apply the latest Windows updates. It is key to having the system protected and preventing certain security flaws from being exploited. Also apply it to other programs you use. Updating the router and other devices is also important.
