Fernando Alonso scores points at the F1 Japanese Grand Prix.

Fernando Alonso has finished seventh in the 2022 F1 Japanese Grand Prix, the same position in which he qualified yesterday at the Suzuka Circuit. The Asturian driver made a great final sprint with new tires to overtake drivers like George Russell and fight for sixth place with Sebastian Vettel.

Alonso defined this Grand Prix as a “very difficult” one, since it has been under water since the weekend, and today the race has been a real chaos from start to finish, with a serious accident by Carlos Sainz, the uncertainty with the title (or not) of Max Verstappen and also the scare by the crane with which Pierre Gasly found himself.

“The whole weekend has been strange. In the race we had extreme wet tires, then we made a stop (to put intermediate tires) with six laps to go and we were close to gaining one more position,” Alonso explained. “In the end we didn’t know we were on the last lap. Inside the car it seemed like there was some chaos within the team. A tough Sunday,” he said.

Alonso also spoke about Gasly’s incident with the tow truck and encouraged his teammates to sit down with the FIA to prevent something like this from happening again.

“We have to talk to the FIA. After what happened with the Jules (Bianchi) accident in 2014, they changed the entire system to prevent it from happening again. And that we have seen it today…” Alonso commented at the end of the race to DAZN F1.

“It doesn’t matter if there is a red flag or a Safety Car; the tow truck should come out only if the car is in the pit-lane or the race is neutralized. We will have to see how it happened and how the order was given,” he explained.

The Japanese Grand Prix was very positive for the Alpine team, since in addition to the points added by Fernando Alonso and his seventh position (5), it should also be noted that Esteban Ocon finished fourth and added 10 more.

Thanks to this, Alpine overtakes McLaren and returns to fourth place in the World Championship, where it now has a 13-point advantage over the British team.
