Maybe you don’t know it, but there are countries where you won’t have to pay an extra euro for your rate, while in others you should be careful if you don’t want to be surprised at the end of the month. So we are going to know the conditions of the blue operator.
Roaming is designed so that customers with a mobile rate can call or surf the Internet in those places where their operator does not have its own coverage. And keep in mind that this particular service is not always free.
If you are going to travel outside of Spain this summer, either for vacation or to see family, and you are a Movistar customer, then you are interested in knowing the conditions that the blue operator sets for its rates.
Free countries with Movistar
Depending on the country you are traveling to, you will be lucky enough to enjoy your current rate, although you will not be able to count on unlimited data, as you have in Spain. The Movistar conditions establish the following, since Zone 1 (European Economic Area – EEA) is considered free:
«When you are in a country of the European Union, Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland or the United Kingdom, you can use the minutes, messages and data of your national rate as if you were in Spain. That is, when you use the data, make a call or send a message to Spain or between these countries, the prices that will apply will be those of your rate.
For zone 2 (Albania, Andorra, Algeria, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Belarus, Canada, United States, Georgia (Republic), Isle of Man, Isle of Jersey, Isle of Guernsey, Macedonia, Morocco, Moldova, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey and Ukraine) and zone 3 (the rest of the world) will be charged based on the rate you have contracted.
On the other hand, the blue operator has a series of Internet vouchers for countries in zones 2 and 3: 150 MB, 500 MB and 1 GB for €60.50 per month, €169.40 per month and 290.40 € per month respectively.

Mobile gigabytes in free roaming
Since January 2023, Movistar rates offer unlimited data, although not all plans offer infinite gigabytes at maximum speed. However, this changes when you leave Spain, since a specific limit is established in the conditions of each rate. Here are the GB available for each operator plan, both contract and prepaid:
- Unlimited Plus contract with 50 GB in roaming.
- Unlimited 30 GB contract with 30 GB.
- Unlimited contract 8 GB with 15 Gb in roaming.
- Total Prepaid: limit of 19 GB in 4 weeks.
- Prepaid Premium: 14 GB free in 4 weeks.
- Prepaid Plus: you have 10 GB in 4 weeks.
In each of these rates, the truth is that the same price is set once the mobile gigabytes have been exceeded. The conditions establish that you have to pay 0.0021 euros for each mega consumed (VAT included) once the free roaming data bonus is exhausted.
What happens if there is an abusive use
On the other hand, even though your rate includes these free gigabytes in roaming within Zone 1 or the EU Zone, the truth is that the conditions explain that a traffic surcharge may be applied in said zones when it is considered that has been misused. So you have to pay attention to the fair use policy:

When the presence and consumption is predominant in EU and EEA Roaming by customers compared to the national traffic that has been carried out.
- Due to a long inactivity of SIM cards associated with a majority use in Roaming.
- The purchase and sequential use of multiple SIMs by the same customer in Roaming.
- The organized resale of Movistar cards.
