Although many of you do not know it, not all the content that we find on the Internet can be used in any way. This is something that extends to images, documents and other content that we download quickly and easily, but many of them are subject to certain copyrights.
But not all content is protected, many publish their own creations online so that other users can take advantage of it. Of course, always respecting a series of conditions that is what we want to focus on now. This is precisely where the so-called Creative Commons licenses come into play. To give you an idea, these licenses guarantee the creator a series of rights over his projects such as photos, documents and other creations of his own.
All this despite sharing all of it for free. Next, we are going to talk about the different types of Creative Commons licenses, since each one refers to a series of conditions that we must distinguish from each other.
Creative Commons Limitations
Before showing you the different types of copyright that Creative Commons contemplates, we must also keep in mind the limitations that this has. They can be used and combined to create more or less strict licenses for their use.
- Attribution (BY). In this case we can use a work in any medium, but citing the author is mandatory.
- Share Alike (SA). Here you can use the resource to create another one, if it is released under the same license as the original.
- No Derivatives (ND). We have the possibility to use a work for anything, if we do not modify it at all.
- Non-Commercial (NC). In this case, work can be used to generate another as long as it is not for commercial purposes.
Once we know these limitations that we have told you about, we can find a total of 6 Creative Commons licenses that are different from each other.
Available license types
Here we must also keep in mind that all these licenses require attribution to the author. From there and depending on the mode chosen, the user will be able to do one thing or another with these resources. Next, we show you so that you understand them and you can distinguish them.
CC-BY 4.0. A work with this license can be used for anything, modified or made money if the original author is cited.
CC BY SA 4.0. If we use this license it means that it can be used in any project, as in the previous case, if the author is cited and published under the same license.
CC BY ND 4.0. This license can be used with commercial content or not, citing the author and without generating other content derived from the original.
CC BY-NC 4.0. Here we have a derivative attribution where you can use a work if you cite the author and in non-commercial projects.
CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. This is a license similar to the first two with which you can use a work for a non-profit project and released under the CC BY-ND-SA 4.0 license.
CC BY-NC-ND 4.0. Finally, this license is like the previous one, but with the difference that it must be used without profit, citing the author, in non-commercial projects and without changes.
