With Apple Maps you can plan a step-by-step route and navigate to any address. While navigating, the app also warns of danger or accidents on the road. But what if you encounter an accident that is not yet reported by Apple Maps? Then you can pass this on to Apple yourself. This function has been available in the Netherlands since August 2021 and works on the iPhone, via CarPlay and via Siri. But how does reporting traffic information work in Apple Maps? Read here everything about how reporting an accident works in Apple Maps.
- Through Siri
- Via Apple Maps app
You can use this function to report an accident, road hazard or speed trap. Apple reviews each report and, if there are enough submissions, it will be visible on the map to other users (except for speed traps). It is not possible to report traffic jams.
If you want to make a report for Apple Maps, always do this safely, without disturbing other traffic. Always use an iPhone car holder or the CarPlay screen when driving. Various holders are also available for the engine.
Apple Maps Report accident via Siri
The easiest way to report an incident and provide traffic information in Apple Maps is via Siri. This can be done completely hands-free via Hey Siri or at the touch of a button on your iPhone or your car steering wheel in CarPlay. All you have to do is say one of these commands:
- Report an accident/hazard/speed trap/incident
- There is an accident/danger/speed trap/incident
- There’s a crash ahead
- There’s something on the way
- There is a speed trap here
- Delete the accident/hazard/incident
- The danger is gone
- The incident is no longer there
- There is an accident that is still there
In addition to reporting a new accident, you can also let us know if an accident is no longer present. Apple will adjust the information in Apple Maps if there are sufficient notifications.
Report incident via Apple Maps app
If you prefer not to use your voice, you can also manually report traffic information to Apple Maps. This can be done while navigating, but it can also be done if you have not started a route. This is possible in both the iPhone app and Apple CarPlay.
- During navigation
- Report afterwards
Report Apple Maps accident while navigating
If you want to report an incident while driving the car, use the menu with large buttons on the screen of your iPhone or CarPlay.
iPhone
- While navigating, tap the arrow at the bottom right. The menu then folds up.

- Indicate what is going on: accident, danger or speed trap.
At the bottom you will see a confirmation of your report. You will receive no further feedback from Apple once your report has been placed on the map.

- Tap the Report button.
- Choose the notification you want to send.
- You will see a confirmation at the bottom left. After a few seconds it disappears from view, but you can also tap OK.
Report traffic information afterwards in Apple Maps
In addition to while driving, you can also make a report afterwards via your iPhone. You can then accurately determine the position yourself, send a description and even attach a photo. This is how you do it:
- Open the Maps app and tap your profile photo at the bottom right.
- Select Notifications at the bottom.
- Select Create a notification at the top of the screen.
- Tap the type of notification you want to make: accident, danger or speed trap.
- Your current location is used. You can adjust the location by tapping and dragging the map and tapping Done.
- Add optional information and share a photo if necessary.
- Tap Send to send your notification.
