Due to their widespread use, the different developers of current web browsers try to make things much easier for us. To do this, they integrate functions and features into their projects natively, and Google Chrome could not be less. But things do not always work as well as we would like.

In fact, in certain circumstances we can find ourselves with important failures related to functionalities that we are used to on a daily basis. This is the case of a feature of the aforementioned Google browser that has just disappeared due to a significant failure on the part of the search giant. Surely many of you have been accustomed to benefiting from the program’s download function for some time now.

What’s more, Chrome gives us the option to drag and drop downloaded files to any website or browser tab, something that has stopped working for many. Basically, this means that if you are used to this mode of operation, you have surely noticed that you can no longer do it. This is something that is due to an error by the developer itself and that has reached our computers through a recent Google Chrome update.

As many of you may already know, the program’s download feature originally appeared in a bar at the bottom of the browser. But the search giant wanted to improve this important functionality last year. Thus, the aforementioned bar gave way to a small download section that we see in the toolbar, next to the address bar.

This causes Chrome downloads to fail

However, we have some bad news for those who are used to dragging downloaded files from here. Many users are currently reporting that the drag and drop feature is not working after the latest Google Chrome updates. To give you an idea of the bug that is now coming, recently downloaded files cannot be dragged to another window or used to open a new Chrome window.

window downloads chrome

At this point, it is worth mentioning that the error mentioned above only concerns the download window that appears when downloading files from Chrome. The download page, on the other hand, seems to work fine. To give us a better idea, this is a bug that started appearing at the end of last July. Specifically, it affects versions 127.0.6533.73 and 126.0.6478.185 of the browser. Well, apparently the problem we are talking about is caused by a recently integrated function in the program that is responsible for improving its performance.

We are talking about the component called UIPumpImprovementsWin that was implemented in 50% of Chrome users a few days ago. Once the problem was located, Google is already working on a solution that should be automatically integrated into Chrome in the next few days through a patch that will be sent by the firm.
