On November 14, 2022, RTVE announced that it would broadcast the Qatar World Cup in UHD-4K resolution. This is possible thanks to UHD Spain, a project in which the public channel is broadcast in tests in ultra high definition.
Getting to see this TVE 4K channel can be possible in two ways: tuning it through Digital Terrestrial Television and also via satellite. We tell you the steps to do it in each of the ways and you decide which is the most appropriate for you.
Have TVE 4K retuning DTT
At the national level, the TVE 4K test channel can be seen from some cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, ​​Malaga, Seville, Toledo, Valladolid, Ciudad Real, Zaragoza or Valencia as long as we meet the technical requirements and have the DVB-T2 decoder incorporated in our television to be able to tune in the DTT 4K channels. In these broadcasts, the HEVC (H.265) codec is used, which enables this type of ultra-high-definition broadcasts, although for them it is necessary to consume a large bandwidth.
Among these requirements is obviously having a television with 4K resolution. Otherwise, we will not be able to reach the maximum resolution that we are looking for and all efforts will be in vain. In addition, to make the most of the quality of the broadcast, it is also convenient to have an HDR-compatible television. Almost all 4K Smart TV models have it, so, as in the case of the DVB-T2 tuner, apparently having a 4K TV solves everything at once (only televisions prior to 2016 could give trouble).
The next step is the actual tuning of this channel in UHD. To test if we can see it, it is enough to try to manually tune in the TVE 4K channels and carry out a specific search according to the Autonomous Community and province in which we are. If you receive through an individual antenna and you are in the broadcast coverage area, you will find the channel by retuning your UHD television, in the case of a collective antenna it is possible that the channel is not incorporated. The only bad thing about the satellite is that it is necessary to have the antenna oriented to Hispasat, since most of Spain is oriented to Astra, since that is where Movistar Plus+ broadcasts exclusively at present.
If you receive satellite TV through Hispasat and you have a television and receiver compatible with UHD, tune it to the 11382V frequency (vertical polarization).
