Google has stepped on the accelerator to launch technology related to artificial intelligence. At its I/O 2024 event, held last May, the company talked about an expansion of Gemini that would serve to “control your Android mobile device and its applications.” Finally, this tool has begun to be deployed on the first smartphones.

The extension is called “Utilities” (in Spanish “Utilities”) and will make managing your mobile phone easier. With this new Google artificial intelligence tool, you will be able to “manage alarms and timers, open applications, control media and more” from one place. The function can be used with instructions in text format or with voice and replaces the Google Assistant, with a much more comfortable and useful experience.

At the moment, Gemini Utilities has not arrived in Spain, but we hope it does so soon, since it is a quite practical feature. Google is “releasing this extension gradually”, as indicated in a statement on his blog. In addition, they have indicated that they only respond to messages in English now. However, they intend to expand its capabilities until it understands other languages.

It should be noted that, although the Gemini application can be used on iPhone, the Utilities extension will not be enabled for the iOS operating system. This function will be exclusive for Android models, since this is Google software. If you have an Apple smartphone, your favorite assistant will continue to be Siri.

With Gemini Utilities you can request several things at the same time

Something that we missed with the virtual assistants that existed until now is that you could only request one thing at a time. Whether with Alexa, Siri or the Google Assistant, we could only ask it to play a song and that’s it. But that’s going to change with Gemini Utilities. Those who start having this tool on their phones will be able to order everything they want in a moment.

According to Google, we can ask artificial intelligence to perform multiple actions in the same voice or written command. For example, we can ask you to lower the volume of notifications and activate battery saver without having to do so in two batches of requests. This is a great change that many wanted with their assistants, so users will be able to take great advantage of it.

Open other apps or websites with Gemini

If you can’t find an app or don’t want to manually search for a page, you can do it with Google’s artificial intelligence. The only thing you will have to tell Gemini is to open what you need and it will show it on your mobile screen instantly.

This works to open a web page in the browser, an application you have installed, or even a specific configuration. This way, you won’t waste as much time scrolling through the screen until you find what you want to use.

All mobile functions with Gemini

Gemini is now capable of making use of all the functionalities that your smartphone has. Whatever you can think of, you can probably make it work thanks to the extension that Google is rolling out. From turning on or off the flashlight or battery saver to raising or lowering the volume or brightness. You can also turn off or restart the device or ask for the percentage of battery remaining if you don’t have it on hand.

With the Utilities function, you can pause a song or video, resume, skip content, ask it to play the previous one or “like” it. Additionally, if you have the Google clock on your mobile, it will be possible to configure your alarms or timers. If you no longer want it to ring, you can cancel it with the Gemini commands; And if you want to know how much time is left until the time in question arrives, you can resolve the doubt by asking.
