DANA has forced the cancellation of all types of travel, with rail transport being one of the main victims, as a result of the damage suffered by its infrastructure. We tell you how to act on it.

He rail transport has been greatly affected by the consequences of DANA in different parts of our country. Many trips have been canceled due to the impossibility of being able to continue traveling on the damaged roads, while others have experienced some delays that may have caused prejudice to their travelers.

In Spain, we currently have three companies that operate and offer their services: Renfe, Ouigo and Iryo. We tell you how you should claim in each of them and what you are entitled to depending on the company with which you had the ticket. In addition to how they are reporting on how to act before DANA.

How to claim on Renfe

Renfe is one of the companies that takes the most care of the punctuality of its service, so it is quite common that in the event of any delay we can claim compensation. The railway company undertakes to refund the entire cost of the ticket in the event that we suffer a delay of more than 90 minutes on Long Distance, Euromed, Avlo, Alvia and AVE trains. If the delay is between 60 and 90 minutes, the refund is 50%.

The middle distance policy is quite similar. Renfe returns 100% of the ticket when the delay is greater than 60 minutes. In addition, it also returns 25% and 50% when the delay exceeds 15 and 30 minutes, respectively. It is important to keep in mind that all claims can be made through their website once 24 hours have passed.

Recently, the company has used its X channel to inform that on the affected trains that have been canceled due to DANA it is offering Free changes and cancellations.

In Oiugo

Ouigo also has its own claims policy and possible compensation in case of cancellation. Specifically, the company low cost offers us two ways:

  • The client has 30 days to change the ticket for free, even if the new ticket has a higher cost. So we can buy a new ticket to travel at any other time without having to worry about the money and its price difference compared to the initial ticket.
  • Secondly, we can also receive a refund of the journey that has been affected by said cancellation. We can request this refund through the website and it can be deposited into our bank account or through a voucher that we can spend later on any other trip.

In the event of a delay, Ouigo refunds 50% of the ticket if it is longer than 60 minutes. While if it is longer than 90 minutes, the refund is 100%.

Currently, Ouigo has a banner on its website that indicates that due to the situation in the Valencian Community, there will be no circulation of the company’s trains on the Madrid – Valencia line. For now, until next November 14. If we had a reservation for these days, we will have to check the email with which we made the reservation for more information.
