Movistar relaunches Movistar Plus+ and includes a new streaming television service. We’ve been talking about the new Movistar++ for days and it’s finally official. The new package includes more channels, content and football, and can be contracted by Movistar customers or any other operator.
The blue operator was aware of the need to change its television offer to make it more accessible and closer to the general public. For this reason, they have been working on Movistar++ for weeks, the name by which this renewal is known internally, which will be available from August 1 for miMovistar customers and for the entire market, regardless of the operator, in OTT mode.
For anyone
With a concept that is very reminiscent of the old Canal+ with movie premieres and one game per day, this new Movistar Plus+ will be available to anyone in a few days. In the case of miMovistar customers who have the MovistarPlus Esencial package, this new service will be directly applied to them at no additional cost (it will cost 11 euros, the same as the current package). They will be able to continue completing the offer with exclusive Movistar options such as Total Football, with all the matches of all the competitions; Total Sports, with all the sports matches and competitions exclusively or Total Fiction, with all the movies and fiction.
As we have said, for miMovistar customers the price will be 11 euros and can be contracted through the usual Movistar channels. In the case of the rest of the clients of other operators, they will be able to contract Movistar Plus+ for 14 euros per month and in OTT mode. This means that they will see it through the app or www.movistarplus.es (not on a decoder).
What does Movistar Plus+ include for 11 or 14 euros?
The operator has explained that this relaunch has the linear channel Movistar Plus+ (dial 7) as the axis of the new television offer. This channel will also have four original thematic channels: Cinema, Series, Music and Documentaries. At the content level, we can see:
- Cinema with a daily premiere.
- Series with all the Movistar Plus+ originals and a selection of international fiction.
- Sports like basketball, rugby or tennis. It includes the NBA, the Endesa League with the ACB Cup, the NFL with the Superbowl, the Six Nations tournament, the German Bundesliga, the Italian Serie A, LaLiga Hypermotion (Second Division), the Spanish Super Cup and Wimbledon and the Masters 1000.
- Football with a LaLiga match and one from the Champions League each day.
- Documentaries of all genres.
- Entertainment and music.
- DTT and various channels: series and movies (FOX, AXN, Warner TV, TCM, Canal Hollywood…), documentaries and hobbies (National Geographic, History, Canal Cocina,…), children’s (Nickelodeon, Baby TV…) and information (BBC, CNN…).
In the case of Movistar customers who sign up for the new Movistar Plus+, they will have access to a series of functionalities such as direct control, recording and content programming, the multi-device option or the last 7 days of programs. There is no shortage of options such as Ultra High Definition (UHD or 4K), voice control, or HDR (High Dynamic Range) and Dolby Atmos.
Football in no man’s land and goodbye to #0
Movistar++ will compete directly with DAZN, which offers 5 LaLiga matches in 35 of the 38 days for 29.99 euros per month, Formula 1, Moto GP, Premier League and Champions League. Although the price of the operator is exactly half, it may not be enough of a claim to attract the user who is looking for sports. As for the content offer, it competes against Netflix, HBO, Disney+, etc. at a similar price and there the American streaming platforms have a more robust position. Soon we will see if the operator decides to carry out some type of welcome promotion, but a priori the sports part has a complicated position due to the limitation that exists especially in LaLiga.
In addition, the exclusive Movistar channel will close on July 31. The truth is that the channel has not managed to agglutinate a significant mass of audience and there have been several controversies that have splashed the managers of the operator related to the contents. Thus, for example, in 2019 there was a serious controversy as a result of a monologue that spoke about the victims of ETA. The victims’ association Dignidad y Justicia charged against the Resistance and the operator was forced to withdraw the aforementioned program from the platform.
