Since the release of Windows 11, Microsoft has made all sorts of moves inviting users to upgrade to the latest version of Windows available, a completely free upgrade, just like Windows 10 was, but unlike Windows 10, it doesn’t support Windows 10. a large number of computers due to certain security-related requirements.

The Redmond-based company continues to update Windows 10, although only in the security section, and will continue to do so until 2025, a date that can be extended over time, just as it has extended support for both Windows XP and Android in the past. Windows 7 without adding new features or support for new technologies.

A few hours ago, they leaked the specifications of the new wireless connectivity standard, Wi-Fi 7, a standard that represents a significant change compared to Wi-Fi 6, both in speed and in bandwidth. As can be seen in the image that has been leaked, this will only be compatible with Windows 11, Linux and ChromeOS, leaving out Windows 10.

Wi-Fi 7 Specifications

In other words, if we buy a new computer and install Windows 10, we will not be able to use the Wi-Fi connection unless we update to Windows 11, since that version will lack the necessary driver to be able to use this new standard. . At the moment, the first devices to be launched on the market with this new wireless connectivity standard will not reach the market until 2024.

This is a leak of the document being prepared by the Wi-Fi Alliance and the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), so it is possible that it is not the final and real specifications of this new standard and most likely It is that Windows 10 is compatible with Wi-Fi 7, since there really is no limitation at the operating system level that prevents it.

The Wi-Fi 7 connectivity standard offers us a data transfer speed of up to 46 Gbps, which is a significant change from the previous version, Wi-Fi 6, whose maximum theoretical speed was up to 9.6 Gbps. . In addition, it also doubles the bandwidth compared to the previous version and adds improvements in the MIMO function to extend the signal coverage.

If we use our PC to browse, download the odd video, check social networks and little else, this new standard is not going to be a revolution for us. However, if we use the computer to play, it will finally be possible to forget about using an ethernet cable to have the best possible connection and avoid the usual problems of internet connections in games. since latency will be reduced to less than a millisecond, one of the most important aspects in the world of video games, especially in multiplayer titles, in addition to video conferencing, massive data transfers, among others.
