Quiddy
The Trimbos Institute has an app for young adults who want to quit smoking. Quiddy matches you with a peer who also wants to quit smoking. The app calculates how much money you save by giving up cigarettes. If you can’t control yourself and want to reach for a cigarette, press the emergency button in the app. The app then motivates you not to do it, for example by promising you a reward. You can ask for help by sending a message to your buddy, so that they can motivate you even more. You can also call De Stoplijn. The app prepares you for difficult moments. Did you have a cigarette anyway? Then learn from your experiences and persevere!
The Stop Coach
In this other app from the Trimbos Institute you will receive personal guidance. You will not be paired with a peer here. Instead, the app offers personal guidance for 8 weeks. You will read stories of others who have quit and you will also receive tips on how to stay quit. The Stopcoach also shows how much money you save, just like Quiddy. The apps are similar, but it depends on what you prefer: a real buddy or a virtual coach.
Stoptober app
Stoptober is the best-known Dutch app to get rid of your cigarette addiction in 28 days. Every year at the beginning of October, a campaign is launched to help smokers quit. The Stoptober app is the ultimate tool for this. The app is back again this year.
The app is a great help if you are struggling to get rid of your smoking addiction. The Stoptober app provides tips and rewards for quitting smoking. You see exactly what your progress is. As soon as you start the app at the start of the day, you will be asked whether you are still smoke-free. The app also calculates how much money you save by indicating how much you normally smoke in a day. The app’s notifications keep you motivated to quit smoking. If you are having a hard time, there is also an Emergency Aid button. You can also collect badges as a kind of reward. There are also chat groups with other quitters. This way you can support and motivate each other.
QuitNow
As the name suggests, this app wants to help you get rid of your smoking addiction immediately. The app has real-time statistics with, for example, the time since your last cigarette. The app also provides insight into how much money you have saved. You can also create a profile in the app and chat with other users. After installing the app, you enter three things: how many cigarettes do you smoke per day, how many cigarettes are in the pack and how much does it cost? QuitNow can calculate the savings based on this. Progress rings show you how much impact quitting smoking has in the short term. Your blood pressure and heart rate improve and your sense of smell and taste improves. This immediately motivates you to start working on longer-term goals, such as the health of your lungs. They need more time to recover.
QuitNow gives you tips to help you quit cigarettes. If you are still stuck, you can chat with fellow sufferers. There is also an Apple Watch app from QuitNow where you can see exactly how much money you have saved and how long you have been smoke-free. Also useful: you can create an account via Log in with Apple.
Smoke Free
Another English-language app that tries to get you to quit smoking is Smoke Free. Like other apps, Smoke Free shows a dashboard with information about how long you haven’t smoked and how this has improved the condition of your body. It contains 90 badges for all kinds of achievements related to quitting smoking. What is unique about Smoke Free is the option to participate in (English) sessions with a coach about all kinds of issues that you may find difficult as a quitter.
Of course, the app also shows how much money you have saved. Speaking of which, Smoke Free’s basic functionality is free and free of ads. You have to pay to use all the functions, but you can get the most out of it by not smoking.
Kwit
This app promises to make quitting smoking easy (and more fun). Kwit offers all kinds of statistics that provide insight into how long you have stopped. The goal is to become the Ultimate Kwitter. You do this by reaching a higher level in the form of achievements. Kwit has a total of 60 achievements that you can unlock. Each achievement provides additional information about the benefits of quitting smoking. The app therefore has a somewhat playful character, so if you like a game that can be the deciding factor.
Kwit also has so-called motivation cards that help you in difficult moments. The app is free, but you can also register with Kwit Premium for additional options. You can count on the app to work well, as the developer regularly releases updates with improvements.
Livestrong: MyQuit Coach app
When you think of Livestrong you might think of Lance Armstrong. Armstrong himself does not contribute to this website, which contains all kinds of articles about healthier living and more exercise. Livestrong’s quit smoking app has been around for many years, but has not been updated for a while. Still, the app looks fine and still works. The app promises a personal plan to finally help you quit smoking.
You can choose to stop immediately (cold turkey) or reduce gradually, at a speed that suits you. Keep track of how many cigarettes you smoke, collect achievements, view your progress and connect with the community of people who have experienced the same thing. Progress rings show you how long you have been smoke-free. You can also see how your desire for a cigarette decreases over time. The app is in English.
Quit smoking
If you think all that fuss is too much, you can also use the app with the simple name ‘Quit smoking’. The app has a simple interface that shows how many days you have been smoke-free and shows in percentages what the benefits are for your health. Just like with other apps, you will also see how much money you have saved. The app offers few extras, but if you need that little bit of support it can be a useful tool.
