Windows 11 has already been two years old. And, according to Microsoft’s plans, the system is about to receive a new update full of changes, improvements and new features to continue evolving, improving the user experience and trying to get all those users who still remain on Windows 10 to give the jump to the new operating system. This new update is the long-awaited 23H2, an update that could arrive much sooner than expected.

We have already talked several times about Windows 11 23H2 and the changes and news that are coming to the operating system. Microsoft has not yet given much information about this update, so the only thing we can know about it is that it will be the KB5030509 patch and that, with its release, the first version of Windows 11 will no longer receive support.

Insider users, within the beta channel, can now enjoy this update and all the new features that have come with it. However, users who are in the stable channel of the operating system will still have to wait to enjoy this new update.

However, to whet your appetite, we have collected all the news that has arrived with the update to the Insider program and that, in a few weeks, we will all have at our disposal.

What’s new in Windows 11 23H2

The first of the new features, and one of the most striking, is the arrival of Windows Copilot. Copilot is Microsoft’s AI, an Artificial Intelligence that the giant wants users to become familiar with so that it can help them in their daily lives. We can invoke it with the Windows + C keyboard shortcut, and with it we can do everything from making system configurations to uninstalling programs or queries on the Internet. An add-on that seeks to revolutionize the way we use the operating system but we don’t know if it will succeed.

Another element that will receive quite a few changes is the taskbar. After two years of asking for it, users will finally have the possibility to configure this bar so that it never combines open windows, as well as to always show their names. Two new features that bring us, a little more, the experience of classic Windows.

The notification center has also received some changes, especially in the icon, which will allow us to know much better when we have unread notifications or when we are up to date.

Another element that will receive its share of changes is the file explorer. The task bar has been renewed along with the address bar of this browser so that it is much simpler, direct and intuitive. A new details panel has also been released that we can show with the shortcut Alt + Shift + P and that will allow us to know much more information about the files at a glance.

Other new features that we will find within the file explorer are several improvements in the tabs (we can finally move tabs between different windows), the new photo gallery and the native support for RAR, 7Zip and TAR files, among other compressed file formats.

Other changes that we will find after updating to this new operating system are:

  • New volume mixer that will allow us to independently control the volume of each application.
  • Windows Backup, a new tool to backup your most important apps, settings and files.
  • Windows Dev Home and Dev Drive, two very important improvements for developers that will allow them to work better with code and builds.
  • Improvements to the Settings panel. Windows will now show us a new main screen within the settings panel, we will have an option to change the dynamic lighting of the PC and we will be able to consult the keys of all the Wi-Fi networks that we have saved much more easily.
  • Windows Ink will now allow you to enter handwritten text.
  • A new indicator when we switch between virtual desktops.
  • New configuration options for the task manager.
  • Support for HDR wallpapers.
  • Improvements in the notification system.
  • New file sharing panel.
  • Improvements to accessibility features.
  • Many of the apps updated.

How to update

We remind you that, for now, the update is only available to users who are signed up for Microsoft’s Insider program. Therefore, if we do not belong to this program, we will not be able to install the patch for 23H2, at least for now.

The update is expected to reach all users this month, or next month at the latest. However, at the moment there is no official information from Microsoft to corroborate this theory, so we have no choice but to wait to see if, finally, the predictions come true.
