Adobe’s plans to continue offering users a free, online version of Photoshop have changed unexpectedly. The reason? The emergence of AI in the technology sector. In one fell swoop, the company has eliminated access to the free version in exchange for the web edition of Adobe Photoshop with artificial intelligence, which, as you can imagine, requires a subscription.
It’s not that free Photoshop editing was amazing. It was a program that was very limited in options compared to the leading software with which Adobe has enchanted designers around the world for years. But it was free and opened new possibilities regarding what the entity could offer in the future. Therefore, the fact that he has taken her away from him is quite annoying. He didn’t even release it worldwide!
Adobe does not want to be left behind
All companies are adopting artificial intelligence to make their tools more capable and efficient. This has been seen in a multitude of programs dedicated to image editing and retouching, so it was obvious that Adobe would have several initiatives on its hands that would allow it to put its mark within this sector. The launch of Photoshop for the web with AI is a strong statement of intent.
Because not only do they want to have a voice and a name when it comes to image editing programs that use AI, but by offering it in web format, they try to reach as many users as possible. After all, it is already known that web access that allows access from any browser in a simplified manner is the basis that is helping so many artificial intelligence tools accumulate thousands of daily accesses. Photoshop doesn’t want to be less, it wants more.
This is Photoshop with AI
Getting to work, we can tell you that you will find this new version of Photoshop from your website. As we told you, it requires a subscription, but you can benefit from a seven-day free trial period. Once this ends, you will have to pay for the Creative Cloud Photoshop subscription, which has a monthly cost of 24.19 euros per month. One of the advantages of this tool is that it has absolute compatibility with PSD files. Adobe says that they can guarantee that the program will open any document in this format no matter what version of Photoshop it was created with or what the weather is. Do you have PSD files from more than 20 years ago? It doesn’t matter! Because you can load them in this version of the software.
The possibilities offered by this version of Photoshop are extensive. You have all the usual uses that you associate with this tool, such as retouching photos and images, using templates, or even creating custom brushes. However, the most important thing is the use of AI and the renewed user interface it offers, since it is very simple, intuitive and is designed so that it can be used in a matter of a little learning. Likewise, a multitude of tutorials are included, designed with the intention that users can perform all types of actions with the program.
The AI used is Firefly, a generative artificial intelligence that allows, for example, the size of images to be expanded so that they cover certain dimensions and fit around the edges without affecting quality. Known as Generative Fill, this function becomes the main course and can lead to excellent results. In the example on the website we see the image of a child dressed as a superhero raising his arm and with a large background on the rest of the screen. With one click, the AI can put a background on that image so that it looks good and with another click the user has the possibility to select what other element will be introduced in the montage. You can also make immediate adjustments to the image of the child in the example, to which it is possible to change the superhero uniform or add any other element. Toco happens in a matter of seconds and maintaining 100% of the sharpness and quality of the composition.
Of course, this is just a small demonstration, since with this version of Photoshop with AI you can do much more. Entering text so that artificial intelligence converts it into images or effects is one of its most important capabilities, which could lead to users saving a lot of time and effort when working with the app. Another tool is also included that allows us to remove elements from images that we upload, all with the characteristic fluidity of these web applications that work with AI.
So, while it is a shame that it seems that the free web version of Photoshop is not going ahead, it cannot be denied that this editing with artificial intelligence is very interesting.
