NOS: watch live

If the NOS picks up a sporting event, it is done well. Just look at the Tour de France. You can also receive the soothing helicopter sounds and commentary on the iPhone and iPad via the livestream. However, there is often a small delay compared to the television. You will also find all the important news about the tour in the app. As in previous years, NOS is the party that broadcasts all official images. You can also watch live images of important sports, including the Tour de France, via the NOS app on the Apple TV.

NPO: also look back

You can also follow all important developments in the Tour de France via the NPO app. This is possible not only on the iPhone and iPad, but also via the NPO app on the Apple TV. If you have missed a stage, you can watch the broadcast or view a summary via the app. You can also watch De Avondetappe with Dione de Graaff. The NPO app also contains all broadcasts of the Dutch public broadcaster and programs remain available for thirty days.

NLZiet: easy to look back

If you want to look back for a long time, you can also use the NLZiet app. This is a live TV app with TV guide that keeps you up to date. You get all Dutch TV programs in one app, including the sports programs that can be seen on RTL. With the NLZIET TV app you can watch TV online to 38+ TV channels. This includes: NPO 1, NPO 2, NPO 3 and NPO extra, all RTL and VRT channels, SBS6, Veronica, Disney XD, Net5, SBS9, INPLUS, all regional channels and the children’s channels RTL Telekids and Pebble TV. With NLZIET Extra you get 10 extra channels, including several BBC channels and the History Channel. So if there is a boring stage you have plenty of other content to watch. NLZiet gives you a free trial period before you take out a subscription.

One: for Belgian viewers

Just like the NOS, you can watch the live report of the most exciting moments of the stage at the Flemish broadcaster Een, of course with expert commentary. In the Netherlands you will find the Belgian channel Een on channel 51 at Ziggo and at KPN it is on channel 29.

Eurosport: complete stages

If you want to see the complete stage from start to finish, Eurosport is the place to be. This channel offers all stages via the Eurosport 2 channel. Not everyone can just watch this. You must be in the app of your TV provider, such as Ziggo, or you can watch via the Eurosport Player app. It works on the iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, but you can also stream to your Chromecast.

The Eurosport Player app gives you access to the live stream of Eurosport 1 and 2, plus extra feeds not shown on TV. There are bonus channels and you can watch news and highlights.

You can find Eurosport 2 on this channel from your TV provider:

  • Ziggo: channel 411
  • KPN: channel 36
  • XS4ALL: channel 36
  • Delta: channel 151
  • Caiway: channel 137
  • TELE2: channel 208
  • Cable North: channel 301
  • T-Mobile at home: channel 132

With most TV providers you can follow the Tour de France live via the normal TV channels. We show the Ziggo app here as an example, but you can also install the app from your own TV provider. With Ziggo you have the option to watch all images via the Apple TV, or stream them to your TV screen via AirPlay and Chromecast. Handy if you want to quickly show everyone an exciting moment from the match.

T-Mobile also offers an Apple TV app for TV Anywhere. This means you can also watch the Tour de France live on your Apple TV. KPN is the only one that does not yet have an Apple TV app for KPN Interactive TV, but it does offer an app with which you can watch on your iPhone and iPad.

  • Ziggo GO (Free, iPhone/iPad, iOS 12.0+) – The normal Ziggo GO app for iPhone and iPad.
  • Ziggo GO TV (Free, TVtvOS 12.0+) – The separately available Ziggo Go app for Apple TV.

Follow Tour de France news and standings

Do you not have the right data bundle to follow the Tour de France live, do you need a second screen during the broadcast or do you want to check information and news on it? Then you can stay informed of the latest developments with these apps.

Eurosport

Eurosport not only has live streams, you will also find news, live blogs of all the major matches and races, more than 150 news articles per day and analysis in videos. You’ll also see live rankings and match schedules, exclusive chats with Eurosport journalists and experts and much more. You hardly have time to watch the Tour de France itself. The biggest plus of this app is that you also get to see videos. You can enable notifications per sport.

Tour Tracker

The Tour Tracker app has been a base for cycling fans for years and is once again rich in information. You can follow races live with news, social media messages, times, a map and a graph of the ride. You can also read the various rankings, rides and cyclists that you can sort and search in all kinds of ways. At the end of a race there is a retrospective and video previews. For €3.49 you get access to even more information, such as live blogs and following the race via GPS. Has the Tour been completed? Then you prepare the app with two screen taps for the next big cycling tour. You will also find information about the Giro d’Italia and the Spanish Vuelta in this app.

Official Tour de France app

The official app of the Tour de France provides important information about stages and riders. You see the route for each stage, which you can also view on Google Maps. There is a timetable per stage, there is background information about the departure and arrival locations and an overview of all teams and riders. In the app you will find all current results and rankings. Years ago the app was still paid, but now fortunately it is free thanks to Skoda’s sponsorship.

GCN

Global Cycling Network (GCN) is the largest global channel for everything related to cycling, mountain biking, cyclocross and the like. With a subscription to GCN+ you can watch the complete stages of all important races live, with your own commentary and shows with previews and afterthoughts. The app can be installed on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. There is something to do every month of the year.

Cycling News & Videos for Tour de France

This news app scrapes together all kinds of news, videos and more. You will receive push notifications for important developments, but only for the topics that interest you. You can also create a personal news feed based on topics. You can save interesting items in the app so that you can read them offline later. On the iPhone you also have the option to block certain sources, for example if you do not want to see newsstands. Please note that this app has not been updated for a while and is therefore not optimized for the latest devices.

Cyclingoo

This app focuses on the Big 3, or the major cycling tours. The app contains detailed profiles of all cyclists and has information about the exact race for each stage. This app also sends notifications of the results. The app will therefore also come in handy during the Tour of Spain that starts in August. If you enjoy cycling all year round, you can safely leave it on your device.

Scorito

If you want to compete in a group against friends or other players, Scorito is a popular tool. You predict who you think will win the rounds this year and thus rise in the rankings to compete for the highest position. Scorito’s app can sometimes be a bit unclear and also looks more like a mobile website than a real app, but due to the large number of players it can still be worth it.

Watch the Tour de France live from abroad

If you are abroad during the Tour, you can also watch the stages there. You can simply look in the EU countries via most apps. Outside the EU you have to rely on local apps or use a VPN app. This can mislead the above-mentioned apps into thinking that you are watching from the Netherlands or Belgium. We previously wrote an extensive test of VPN apps on iPhone and iPad. When choosing an app, make sure that it supports Dutch or Belgian servers.
