Over the last few decades, almost since the Internet came into our hands, downloading copyrighted content has become commonplace for many. In our country there have been a series of websites that were extremely popular at the time, such as SeriesYonkis.
Obviously, this type of download has never been welcomed by almost anyone, except for the users who took advantage of it. The entertainment and leisure industry has always fought against all of this. Hence the hundreds, or even thousands of complaints that occurred throughout the globe for years.
In our country, one of the most striking and followed cases was that of the aforementioned website SeriesYonkis, which seems to now be coming to an end. It is an online platform that at the time offered links to all types of movies and series and was surrounded by extensive controversy. Hence, last year 2014, its top managers finally decided to eliminate all links to third-party content.
Hence precisely why last year 2019 a judge acquitted the four administrators of the website that we mentioned. But although they believed that the whole process was finally over, from what we know now, the case once again has a new chapter, as we are going to tell you. It is worth mentioning that last year 2015 the so-called Intellectual Property Law came into force. At that time, the Audiovisual Producers’ Rights Management Entity, also known as Egeda, set the goal of reopening the case against SeriesYonkis. To give you a better idea of what we are telling you, Egeda requested compensation of 550 million euros for the damage caused to the entertainment industry.
Obviously, this claim was a hard blow for the administrators of the old SeriesYonkis website. But with everything and with it and 16 years after suffering for these creators of the popular website, justice has finally reached a conclusion.
To the joy of the administrators of the well-known entertainment content download link website, they have been acquitted. And we must know that at this moment the Second Chamber of the high court has unanimously rejected the appeals presented by Egeda. Hence the aforementioned acquittal of the SeriesYonkis administrators definitively.
Presumably, from now on and 16 years later, the case will be closed. The court considers that the activity of SeriesYonkis did not constitute a crime in accordance with current regulations. As we told you before, the Intellectual Property Law did not begin until 2015.
It seems that these four people will finally be able to breathe easy and leave behind their past in the controversial world of copyrighted content piracy.
