The Internet speed that we can achieve today in a home in Spain can range, approximately, between 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps. However, there are places where a similar speed still does not reach and do not exceed 100 Mbps, while there is also the option, in some cases, of contracting up to 10 Gbps. But, what really is the necessary speed today? We are going to talk about it in this article.
Keep in mind that this will depend a lot on each case. A person who lives alone, and simply uses the Internet to access email and use social networks, is not the same as living in a home with several people, where fairly complete use is made of the network. We are going to talk to you about the minimum speed that, in general, is good nowadays.
300 Mbps, the minimum speed
We can say that having 300 Mbps symmetrical fiber optics today is what we consider basic. It does not mean that 100 Mbps, for example, is not enough in most cases. But if what you want is to navigate safely, and thus avoid problems, the ideal is to have at least 300 Mbps.
But what do we base this figure on? Let’s assume a home in which, at least, two people live. Each of them, most likely, will use several devices. It can be a cell phone, computer and television, for example. In many cases, there will be other devices also connected.
To be able to view streaming content in high quality, in 4K, such as through YouTube, it is advisable to have at least 25 Mbps. If we add to that the fact that we can have a computer to play at the same time, another person is making a video call or even uploading files to the cloud or updating a computer, the necessary bandwidth goes beyond 100 Mbps without problems.
Therefore, having 300 Mbps, at least, we believe is important. Keep in mind that, for certain games, it is advisable to have at least 50 Mbps. If you add to that that you have a movie on television, in 4K, we would talk about another 25 Mbps. As long as you have another device connected, Whether there is a guest at home or you are updating something, you will require more.
Having a good connection, key
Now, having a rate with the maximum speed is not the same as actually having a good connection. You could connect via Wi-Fi, but the signal is very weak. If this happens, you will not really take advantage of those 300 Mbps or whatever you have contracted, since you will receive less.
Our advice is that you plan your home network connection well. Make sure you put the router in a good place, install repeaters or Mesh systems if necessary, also take advantage of the cable connection and, ultimately, ensure that your devices receive an adequate signal. Especially, it is important in those cases where you need more bandwidth.
In short, we can start from a base of 300 Mbps Internet today. More or less, from that figure is what we consider necessary. Without a doubt, if you have a higher rate, you will have greater margin to avoid outages and problems.
