Just a few months ago, Microsoft launched 23H2, the last (to date) update of its operating system that came with many improvements and new features to continue improving the user experience. 24H2 will be the big update that should reach our computers this year. However, although we initially expected it for the end of the year, it is more than likely that it will arrive much sooner than expected.
Microsoft was initially expected to present the successor to Windows 11, i.e. the new Windows 12, not much later in the summer. This would be an operating system very focused on AI and full of new features and functions that would completely change the way we work with the PC. However, as the weeks of 2024 have passed, the rumor of a new operating system has lost strength, and now there is only hope of seeing a new version of Windows 11.
This new version of the operating system would arrive under the name “Windows 11 2024 Update”, it will have a code name “Hudson Valley” and, in addition, it will be based on “Germanium”, Microsoft’s new core for its operating system. We remember that Windows 11 22H2 released a core (Nickel) but the 23H2 used the same core as its predecessor.
An AI-based update
At the moment it is too early to know what the new 24H2 version of Windows 11 will or will not bring. What is certain is that it will be an update focused on AI. We are going to find a large number of changes and functions very focused on Artificial Intelligence. And we are not only talking about Copilot, the new assistant that we can now use in the 23H2, but also about many other intelligent functions that will help us find information on the PC, and on the Internet, about whatever we want.
We remember that Microsoft has already begun to design a specific chip for AI, a chip that, although at the moment it is only designed for tablets, will also reach PCs, allowing Windows to make use of AI by processing information locally instead of doing it from the cloud. What is clear is that within Microsoft itself they have already started working on this new version of Windows, as we can see from the new “build” jump.

Now, just because they are already starting to work on them does not mean that, overnight, we will be able to download this new version of Windows. Therefore, we still do not know what other changes this new version of the operating system will bring. There are some clues that let us see some features, such as the arrival of the SUDO command to Windows 11, although it does not work yet. It is still early to make a list of changes related to the new version of the system.
When does Windows 11 24H2 arrive?
As could be seen in one of the Microsoft Build presentation slides, in the calendar that appeared on the screen it had scheduled, for May 24 at 10:30 in the morning, a presentation of the new generation of Windows. This means that, on that date, there will be an event where Microsoft will talk about its operating system, presenting this version or, if we are lucky, even giving hints about the new Windows 12.
From the moment of the presentation, Insider users will now be able to download this new version of Windows, install it and test it thoroughly to see how it works. Although it will not be until much later, probably towards the end of autumn 2024, when the new Windows 11 24H2 reaches all users through Windows Update.
