Yesterday was the second Tuesday of the month. And, continuing with Microsoft’s support plans, the software giant has just released its new security patches for Windows. These patches are responsible for correcting several critical and important vulnerabilities detected by Microsoft in the computer, while allowing us to continue working with the PC safely and reliably. If you don’t want to fall into the clutches of hackers, read on to learn more about these updates and how to install them.

The new security patches from Microsoft have arrived quite loaded in terms of the problems and bugs they correct. On this occasion, this new update has solved a total of 73 vulnerabilities detected in the company’s own products, in addition to another 6 security flaws related to other non-Microsoft products.

Specifically, the 73 security flaws in the operating system are divided as follows:

  • 16 elevation of privilege type failures.
  • 3 vulnerabilities that allow you to evade the security measures of the operating system.
  • 30 remote code execution bugs.
  • 5 vulnerabilities of the disclosure of sensitive information type.
  • 9 security problems that allow denial of service.
  • 10 “spoofing” type vulnerabilities.

The versions of Windows affected by these problems, and that have received their share of updates, are the following:

  • Windows 10 22H2: 38 vulnerabilities are solved, 1 of them critical and the rest of major danger. The most dangerous vulnerability is a remote code execution flaw.
  • Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2: they solve 41 vulnerabilities, 2 of them critical, 38 important and one of moderate danger. The two most dangerous are an error that allows remote code execution and another that causes a denial of service on the PC.

In addition to these desktop versions of Windows, the Server editions of Windows have also received updates, starting with 2008 and 2012 (which are within extended support) and continuing through the rest of the versions until the latest Server 2022.

Other companies that have also taken advantage of this second Tuesday of the month to solve security flaws in their products are Adobe, Cisco, Google (with the new Android patches), Linux and even the Mastodon social network, among others.

How to update the PC

These new security updates are now available to all users who have a Windows within Microsoft’s support plans, like the ones we mentioned above. At first, if we have automatic updates activated on the computer, we have nothing to worry about. But, if we want to make sure that they are installed correctly, what we have to do is go to Windows Update and check for new updates by hand.

Depending on the version of the operating system that we have installed, one update or another will appear, with a different KB numbering. We download the updates, restart the computer, and we can continue working with the PC with maximum security.

Additionally, if you prefer, you can download and install the patches by hand to install them without depending on the Internet or Windows Update from the following links:

Posible problems

Initially, these new security patches are not causing problems for most users. However, some cases have begun to appear on the Internet in which some users, especially with Windows 10, are encountering some problems when trying to update their computer.

Microsoft has not confirmed the presence of errors, although it is true that it is investigating possible problems with patches KB5034763 and KB5034765. We hope that, in the coming days, we will have more information about this.
