If you are an Apple Music subscriber, you can ensure that your music library is synced between your devices. This does not always work well. In this tip, we’ll discuss how syncing your Apple Music library works and what you can do if it’s not working properly.
- Sync Apple Music library
- Stream music library on other devices
- If syncing doesn’t work
Sync Apple Music library
Use the Sync Library feature to stream your music library on any device signed in with the same Apple ID. This is the Apple ID with which you are subscribed to Apple Music. To be able to synchronize your music library, you obviously need a subscription to Apple Music. necessary. It also works in conjunction with iTunes Match.
If you don’t see the ‘Sync Library’ option, this could be due to two reasons: your subscription has expired or your device is not signed in with the correct Apple ID. If you are not a subscriber, you will have to synchronize your music library manually.
Sync Apple Music with your Mac
That is how it works:
- Open the Music app on your Mac.
- Select ‘Account’ from the menu bar and check whether you are logged in with the correct Apple ID.
- Choose Music > Settings and go to the General tab.
- Select Sync Library and press OK.
Wait for the music library to sync. You can check the status by clicking ‘Update Cloud Music Library’ at the bottom of the sidebar. If the syncing was successful, you can also enable syncing of the Apple Music library on your other devices.
Sync Apple Music with your iPhone and iPad
To ensure that the music library is also synchronized on the iPhone and iPad, do the following:
- Open the Music app on your device and tap your account photo. Go to Account Settings and check whether you are logged in with the correct Apple ID.
- Now open the Settings app and scroll to Music.
- Turn on Sync Library. As soon as you enable this, two extra buttons will be added.
Stream music library on other devices
After you turn on Sync Library on your Mac, PC, iPhone, or iPad, you can stream your music library on any device with the Apple Music app. Of course, you must be logged in with the correct Apple ID. You can also access your music library at music.apple.com.
If syncing is not working properly
Apple has a number of tips you can go through if songs are missing or if syncing isn’t working properly. But that does not always provide a solution.
In January 2024, several users reported problems with syncing your Apple Music library. Some people lose hundreds of hours of self-made playlists as a result. Users cannot add new music to their library and previously added music will no longer appear. Some users may only see a message in the Music app on desktop warning them that the Genius results cannot be updated. Others also have problems on their iPhone or iPad, making the music library inaccessible. There are several complaints on the Apple Support pages and on Reddit, making it clear that this is a widespread problem.
There is no solution yet and Apple has not yet responded. It may help to sign out of iCloud, change your password, then sign back in. However, this does not appear to work for everyone.
