At the end of 2023, Microsoft released the latest version of its operating system, Windows 11: 23H2. As usual, the company has released this update in waves, first reaching users with more modern computers, which are less likely to fail, and gradually opening up the circle to include more users. Today, Microsoft has brought the operating system update to the last remaining group of users. And, finally, we can say that this version is now available to 100% of users.

The 2023 updates have been a bit chaotic. For some reason, Microsoft thought it was a good idea to bring all the 2023 improvements and new features to users via a normal cumulative patch (Moment 5) instead of 23H2.

This has meant that all Windows 11 users have the latest improvements and new features of this system, such as Copilot or support for compressed files in RAR, among others, making it difficult to know which exact version we are on.

Windows 11 23H2 Update

In February of this year, users who had versions of Windows 11 that were not supported, or were about to be abandoned, received this update so that they could keep their systems up to date. And, from today, absolutely everyone who has Windows 11 installed on their PC will be able to update to version 23H2 naturally, without changes or tricks on the PC.

Upgrade to Windows 11 23H2

As we can see on Microsoft’s website, the company has already made this version of its operating system “available for all eligible computers.” That is, all computers that meet the Windows 11 requirements (and have installed the system without modifications or patches) will now be able to install this new version to continue using the system without problems or limitations.

In addition to the fact that the new version of this Windows is already available for everyone, Microsoft is going to force the installation as soon as possible for all those users who do not have support, or are about to become obsolete. Thus, the company’s plan to massively deploy the update is:

  • Users running Windows 11 version 22H2 or earlier and not controlled by an administration will receive version 23H2 automatically in the coming weeks.
  • Users who wish to do so can install Windows 11 23H2 manually. Simply go to Windows Update and check for new updates manually to download and install this version.
  • Windows 11 21H2 users under the control of an administration will receive the update as a mandatory update in the coming months. But they still have time to prepare.

Users who do not meet the official requirements for Windows 11 may not receive this update through official means. In that case, what we should do is download Windows 11 again, burn it to a pendrive and install it on our PC, but make a backup of any important data beforehand.

Windows 11 24H2 in sight

The reason Microsoft has finished rolling out Windows 11 version 23H2 right now is simple: the company is almost ready for the next update to the operating system, 24H2. This update should start reaching users after the summer, and although it won’t be as big as others in terms of new features, it will bring interesting features, especially in the field of AI.

There is no exact release date for this version yet. We also don’t know for sure what the new features will be or if, as with 23H2, many of them will arrive ahead of time via a patch for everyone. For now, we have no choice but to wait.
