The way we communicate has taken a radical turn and a large part of that is due to WhatsApp. The most used instant messaging application on the planet is trying to incorporate new functions to make things a little easier for its users and to allow them to interact more comfortably with their loved ones. This time it is related to the use of chat messages so that people can react in a more intuitive and simple way.

There is no doubt that we are in a phase of our lives in which communication has changed completely and now, instead of calling each other, a text message is enough to chat about any topic and start a conversation in a completely natural way. There are those who think the opposite and prefer to continue using voice calls, but it is clear that chatting has become the main way of contact.

Since its arrival on the mobile market, WhatsApp has taken over all of our smartphones, being one of the essential applications of today. For this reason, the Meta company has committed to launching new functions that can be useful enough for its users to communicate more easily. One of the latest implementations that have been announced has to do with the way of reacting to any message in the chat. This is how it intends to have you interact in the near future.

Double tap on WhatsApp messages

WhatsApp tends to look to its competitors to continue to increase its capabilities. This is not a bad thing, by any means, so if something works, why not apply it yourself? We know perfectly well that Meta’s tool is on a lower rung in terms of all the qualities offered by Telegram and that, in turn, this messaging platform continues to lag behind WhatsApp, despite the fact that it has obtained 950 million users.

Be that as it may, the developers of the most downloaded messaging app are already working on a new feature that allows users to quickly react to chat messages with a double tap.

However, this feature is only available to beta testers on WhatsApp for Android version 2.24.11.16, which means you’ll need to be a member of the beta tester community if you want to benefit from all its advantages and be the first to use its tools, although at the moment it is difficult to access, since today the maximum number of analysts has been reached.

How does double tap work and what is it used for?

If you’re a Telegram user, you’re probably already familiar with this practice. Double-tapping is an interaction that allows you to respond to any message, whether it’s text, photos, videos, GIFs, etc. This way, you can express your emotions through emoticons by just tapping twice. In fact, it’s very similar to the Likes in private chats on Instagram, for example.

Until now, WhatsApp only allowed reactions by long-pressing on any message in the chat, which would open a pop-up window to select the type of emoji you want to react with.

The messaging app will aim to speed up the reaction process to save time and improve communication. However, this option is expected to be activated by default, with no possibility of disabling it, so reactions can be caused accidentally.
