Some Ring surveillance cameras from Amazon have been experiencing issues this week. According to the company, the reason for the issues was problems with Amazon Web Services (AWS), the e-commerce cloud service. Luckily, it seems that they have already fixed it, but you will have to update the device to get back to normal.
Several Ring smart camera users have reported several issues in recent days. Ring Protect video recording, live calls, doorbells and motion detection, and other features that are widely used by most Internet users were failing. The incident also affected the brand’s official website, ring.com, which was inaccessible.
“We are aware that some Ring customers are experiencing a service interruption,” the brand said in a statement via X. “We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to resolve this issue.”

Since these are devices that many people buy for the security of their homes, these failures were worrying. Especially now, when there are people who have left their house in the care of a Ring and have gone on summer vacation. But Amazon has quickly solved it and we can now continue to monitor from a distance thanks to these cameras.
Amazon Web Services, the problem behind Ring’s downfall
Connected devices are becoming more and more common in homes. Thanks to this technology, we can enjoy more features than with conventional non-smart devices. Before, a camera could record and store videos, at most. Now, with Ring and similar products, we can configure them to send us live images to our mobile, among many other things.
However, for that to happen, Amazon relies on its cloud service, and if that goes down, so do Ring’s smart features. The company warned earlier this week that there were problems in the US-EAST-1 region of its server networks, which support many of the e-commerce site’s internet services such as its surveillance cameras.
“We are investigating issues with multiple Ring systems impacting aspects such as live view, recordings, timeline, event history, etc,” Amazon said in its press release. The tech company clarified that AWS Health had experienced “increased contention when processing incoming data.” As a result, 64 services on the cloud service had been affected, particularly Ring devices.
A few days after the note, Amazon has already confirmed that the problems have been “resolved and all services are working normally.” However, some Ring users may take a while to be able to use the functions again: “They may experience delays until they are fully recovered.”
In Spain, some problems were reported. However, the downtime of AWS servers in the US-EAST-1 area was barely detected in our territory. As can be seen on the Downdetector page, errors were only reported at midnight, at 3 AM and at 6 AM. Users explained that they were server connection failures and it seems that they have already been resolved. Meanwhile, in the United States, complaints about Ring failures have been much higher and have been made throughout the night.
In both our country and the US, the problems with Amazon surveillance cameras ended around 6 AM. So far this morning, there have been virtually no reports of an error with Ring cameras in the Iberian country. Therefore, if you continue to have errors, you will have to wait or try updating the device. You may be able to resolve the problems later today.
