We review the meaning of the lights on the Movistar router, which inform us of the connection status and the services of our line. The moment we see red lights, fixed or flashing, we will know that there is a problem.

Normally, we see the lights on our Movistar router in blue or, in any case, green, for example if we are making a call from our landline. If we suddenly see a red light on one of the lights, we will intuitively know that something is wrong. And so it is. Below we explain what the red light on the Movistar router means and why this indicator is a very bad omen.

As a Movistar fiber customer, you should have either the Smart WiFi router or the Smart WiFi 6. Both are similar, and have four lights on the front, although in the WiFi 6 model these lights are smaller and less bright. Each light serves to indicate the status of the operator’s four main services: landline telephone, regular 2.4 GHz WiFi, 5 GHz WiFi Plus, and the Internet connection, in that order.

In the case of the two central LEDs, those of the WiFi wireless networks, these lights will always be blue, when the operation is correct, or flashing, if you have just pressed the button that activates the WPS function, which will make them flash for a couple of minutes. WPS corresponds to the acronym for WiFi Protected Setup, and is a way of connecting new devices to the WiFi without having to use the long established password, but other more comfortable methods such as a numeric PIN, NFC (bringing the device closer to the router), using a USB or a PBC button.

You may also find that both of these lights are off, or one of them, indicating that the network is not working for some reason. If it is because you have disconnected it in Settings, you can press and hold the WPS button for 5 seconds to restart the WiFi.

Red light, the one we don’t want to see

However, in the case of the fourth LED, the one that corresponds to the Internet connection, this light can, if necessary, turn red. If it is blue, it means that it is connected correctly, and if it is flashing blue, it means that it is reconnecting after having been turned on or restarted. And if it is solid red? Well, this indicates that there is a problem with the router, which could be caused by the hardware or software of the device. It is comparable to the famous ‘red lights’ on the classic Xbox, which warned of a serious problem with the console.

If you see a steady red light there, it means that the router has a problem that will not allow it to work properly. You may also see a red light on the landline phone light, since if the router does not have access to the network, you will not be able to use this line either. How to solve it? You can try turning off the router for several seconds and then turning it back on. But if this does not solve the problem, you will have to contact the operator’s technical service.

It may also be the case that the red light is flashing. This indicates that the router detects a weaker fiber signal than it should, and if this is not resolved, you will also have to ask the operator for help to see why the fiber optic power is not reaching the home properly or is insufficient.
