The gaming community is in luck. And there is a reason to celebrate, because today, November 7, a new console goes on sale, the most powerful to date: PS5 Pro. However, the specialized media have already carried out the first analyzes after receiving the Sony machine earlier this week, where very interesting results have been obtained. Surely you are not sure whether to buy it or not, so in this article we are going to try to clear up your doubts.
It’s here! The moment that many players have been waiting for has arrived and the PS5 Pro is now available in all stores in Spain. The console arrives in the middle of the life cycle of the original PS5, something that could be expected after the launch of PS4 Pro occurred in the same period, but the truth is that it does not arrive with a good taste in the mouth, since its announcement has been surrounded by controversy. The main reason? Its high price that, if we round up, we will have to pay 800 euros to get the digital version or, failing that, about 920 euros more if we want to have the disc reader.
Controversy also arises over whether the performance is high enough to justify its purchase and whether the improvement is really noticeable in all games. So far, Sony has guaranteed that there will be a qualitative leap, but, at the same time, we are talking about the fact that it is not a PS6 and, therefore, it is not a generation change. Be that as it may, different analyzes are already on the table that confirm the increase in its power.
Main PS5 Pro improvements
Since the presentation of the PS5 Pro, the Japanese company has not been able to disseminate the different specifications that its new platform has, in such a way that this information has not been revealed until a few days ago by the media that have had the pleasure of receiving it to be analyzed.
Once we have all the paperwork on the table, we have the same 8-core AMD Ryzen Zen 2 processor as the basic PS5, although its graphics component has been replaced by a 16.7 TFLOPS RDNA 3 GPU with GDDR6 memory 16 GB and an additional 2 GB DDR5. In addition, the internal storage has been expanded to 2 TB.
On the other hand, one of the main new features has been included, called PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution), which is responsible for rescaling the resolution to the maximum level with the use of Artificial Intelligence to maintain sharpness in the images.
As for its connection, WiFi 7, two USB type A ports and two high-speed USB type C ports have been implemented. In turn, the maximum energy consumption reaches 390 W and its dimensions are higher than the Slim version: 388 x 89 x 216 mm and 3 kg in weight.
Is the change worth it?
When turning on the console, at no time will we be told that we are using a PS5 Pro, since the interface is identical to the one we control on the base PS5, but new options appear in the settings section, such as the possibility of configure the 8K video output, as well as screenshots, or one of the least revealing configurations since it has also been a pleasant surprise: the image improvement in PS4 games. In this regard, it will not improve the frame rate per second, but it will add an image filter so that the games look much better. This can be noticed in games like Bloodborne, which does not increase its variable frequency to 60 fps, but you can see a little more definition. Of course, do not expect an abysmal change, since the appreciation is minimal.
Consequently, Sony has announced that a number of 50 games that are currently on the market will be updated to see first-hand the capabilities of PS5 Pro. Some results have already been seen in Alan Wake 2, not too successful, since the resolution rescaling is somewhat scarce, specifically from 1,536 x 864 pixels to obtain graphical improvements, such as Ray Tracing or ray tracing.
To the question, is it worth spending 800 euros? In this case, the improvements correspond only to a software update for games that are already in circulation, so it is still early to give a verdict. Likewise, the visual part is the one that benefits the most, with a slight increase in fps, which not everyone appreciates, so we would wait a while to see if future titles make use of the true power of PS5 Pro.
