Extensions come to Chrome for Android, although not as you would like

When talking about Internet browsers, we are actually referring to one of the most used and widespread software sectors for a long time. Hence the fight that the different developers of this type of software maintain.

There is no doubt that the undisputed leader in the sector is Google Chrome, where we can also highlight Microsoft Edge or Mozilla Firefox. Most users, both desktop and mobile, have one or more browsers installed. Everything will depend on your preferences or modes of use when moving online.

But if we focus on desktop computers and the aforementioned Google Chrome, without a doubt the extensions are also a fundamental part of the whole set. These small software elements are added to the browser itself to provide new additional functions. Surely many of you make constant use of these extensions in Chrome.

However, the search giant currently refuses to bring it to the Android version. We assume that there are several reasons why Google does not want us to install extensions in Chrome for mobile devices. But now a new version of the browser for Android has just been released that would support these additional software elements. However, this new development has a serious drawback, as we are going to explain to you.

And another of the great projects that this technological giant is working on is its own operating system for desktop computers, Chrome OS. We must keep in mind that at the beginning of this summer Google confirmed that this operating system would increasingly resemble Android. Therefore, both platforms could interact in a much more effective and useful way for the user.

This will be Chrome for Android with extensions

Hence precisely why it has also started developing a new version of its browser for Android but with support for extensions. Say that at that time the company confirmed that Chrome OS would use Linux Kernel technology and Android frameworks in its internal operation. Hence precisely its efforts to create, at least in theory, a Chrome with support for extensions, but focused on its desktop operating system.

chrome extensions

So that we understand each other, although the company describes it as a browser compatible with extensions for mobile devices, in reality its design focuses on working on Chrome OS. This surely means that many of those who had their hopes up now return to reality. This means that the browser will be able to work on Google’s desktop system and we will also have the possibility of adding additional extensions.

But for those who hope to be able to use these plugins on their Android mobile devices when working with Chrome, they can be forgotten for now. The truth is that the technology giant is still not in a position to give this possibility to its users for various reasons, for example to avoid the installation of add-ons focused on ad blocking on Android.
