There are many benefits and advantages that Microsoft offers us with its operating system used by the majority, Windows. But it is obviously not perfect software and many users have numerous complaints about it.
Aside from the high consumption of resources or the included telemetry, as many of you already know, Windows includes by default a series of pre-installed software that hardly convinces almost anyone. In fact, these are programs that many consider bloatware and that they will never use. They look for different ways to get rid of all that software in one way or another. And sometimes Microsoft does not make it easy to uninstall.
As the years and system versions have passed, these preinstalled applications have increased in some cases, and disappeared in others. And not all the experiments carried out by the software giant are as successful as initially expected. This is precisely the case that concerns us in these lines with one of those solutions that was introduced in Windows, but that practically no one used.
The problem is that the firm is now bringing it back, something that will not be liked too much. As some of you may remember, Microsoft first introduced the Your Contacts application, also known as My People, in Windows 8. With this, the intention was for us to have both an address book and a social application.
It was compatible with Microsoft accounts in programs such as Outlook and Skype, and allowed users to add their own social network accounts. This included Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and more. All in order to bring all your contacts together in a single interface and keep track of their latest updates, posts, etc.
The useless Contacts app comes back to life on Windows
But the truth is, and despite the hopes that Microsoft had in this app, it never had the slightest success. For example, over time and due to changes in Facebook and other platforms, it lost integration with social networks. In Windows 10 the application only offered integration with Skype. If we add these shortcomings to its low acceptance, it became totally useless bloatware.
Hence, the company made the decision to eliminate it from its automatic start. It let users decide how to launch it from applications such as Mail or Calendar. At this point, many of you may already know that little by little Microsoft is eliminating these native applications that we mentioned in Windows. Hence, evidence is now emerging that the company is working on a new Your Contacts or My People application.
This is something that has just been leaked, since an installation file for the new app has been discovered that initially has a size of just under 3 megabytes. What this indicates is that it is a web application wrapper. Once installed, the new Your Contacts app can be launched from the Start menu or pinned to the taskbar.
For now the new application does not work with personal Microsoft accounts. Only works when you sign in with a firm business or education account. As expected, here we will have a list of contacts, we will be able to see their individual cards, and the search function allows us to search for them.
The truth is that the experience of the new version is very similar to the old one we told you about before. Now we only have to know if Your Contacts will become a reality in the rest of the Windows editions, as well as if it will be a little more successful than the original version.
