Steam users continue to find new features to enjoy to improve their experience and provide them with more possibilities. Until now, one of its most anticipated features was only in beta for some users, but now it is available globally.
Steam’s goal, as it has demonstrated over the years, is to provide users with more features that allow them to rely less on external applications. The Valve platform takes note of user requests and, little by little, makes additions. In this case, what is activated for all users is the recording system, which helps us get rid of external tools and benefit from a more simplified use.
This is Steam Game Recording
This is the tool that had previously been in beta and is now added to the global functions available on Steam. Known in Spanish as Game Recording, it is presented as an integrated system that puts four main functions in the hands of users: record, play, trim and share. The system is very intuitive, simple and efficient, three features that aim to help users see that it is a better option than resorting to an external application as has been done until now.
And the truth is that Valve has done an outstanding job with this recording system, which includes many more functions than imaginable. For example, you can activate background recording mode and let the tool take care of recording everything. The system is very solid, since the last 120 minutes of gameplay we have played are stored. Once that period of time has passed, we can play with the videos or save them and then the system will start recording again. Of course, we have a very complete tool to make short or long clips and even to edit the videos in different ways.
If we prefer a manual recording mode, Steam Game Recording also includes it. In this case we will only have to press a key to start recording and to finish. But what we liked most about the system are the event markers. This is one of the options that this recording system has and what it does is indicate key points in the recordings so that we know where important things have happened. This system is not activated by default in all games, but rather developers have to implement it. In any case, the forecast is that it will become more and more common and, if successful, it could end up becoming a standard.
If you are the one who wants to set the markers, you can also do so. Everything is, as we told you, very intuitive and, in addition, a recording manager is incorporated that helps to have better control over the different videos we produce. From there, sharing the videos in different ways will be a piece of cake. We can take them to social networks with a click, export the videos in MP4, create links or share them in different additional ways.
Maximum compatibility and end of support
Before finishing talking about the Steam Game Recording system, we must add that Valve has enabled it so that it can be used in all the games on our computer. Therefore, it is not exclusive to Steam, which is undoubtedly a good asset to take into account. The company has made the SDK and API files available to developers and possibly hopes it will be a technology that will be quickly adopted. Of course, this system is compatible not only on Windows, but also on Steam Deck and Mac computers.
Another novelty that has arrived in the latest update of the Steam app is the loss of support for some of the classic versions of Windows. Due to this, users will no longer be able to use the platform on computers with Windows 7 and Windows 8 systems, while support on Macs with versions 10.13 and 10.14 is also eliminated. However, the company had already warned in advance about the end of support for these systems, so it was something that could be seen coming.
