Netflix under suspicion of money laundering and fraud: police search several offices in Europe

There is no doubt that one of the great references in everything related to video streaming is Netflix. Company with hundreds of millions of customers around the world, but now it is under suspicion, as we are going to tell you.

The growth of this type of online video platforms has been enormous in recent years. And the big N company has been able to make the most of user preferences at this time for their leisure time. But it seems that right now he is not living his best moment. And from what we have just learned, the Dutch and French authorities have just registered the Netflix headquarters in their corresponding countries.

In this case we are referring to a North American company that is suspected of allegedly carrying out money laundering and tax fraud. Hence the searches in both offices that the security forces have just carried out at the Amsterdam and Paris headquarters. We are talking about a coordinated operation in both regions that has been studied and prepared for several months.

To give you a better idea, the registration in France was carried out by the Central Office for the Fight against Corruption and Financial and Tax Violations. And this is not something new, since the French headquarters of the leisure company was already the subject of a tax inspection in the past years 2019, 2020 and 2021. Now the Dutch authorities have joined forces to investigate this alleged tax and labor fraud by part of Netflix in both regions.

France and the Netherlands investigate alleged tax fraud by Netflix

To say that the National Finance Prosecutor’s Office of France already opened a preliminary investigation last November 2022. Hence, at this moment we can affirm that these suspicions have been going on for a long time. The raid, which just took place just a few hours ago, was authorized due to suspicions of alleged cover-up of serious tax fraud and clandestine work.

A French media claims that investigators specialized in financial crimes and corruption searched the company’s offices in the center of Paris. For their part, Dutch authorities are carrying out a similar search at Netflix’s headquarters in Amsterdam, all as part of a joint effort between both countries.

As it could not be otherwise, throughout the last few hours multiple media outlets have tried to establish contact with the leading streaming firm. However, despite insistence, at the moment Netflix has not made any official statement in this regard.

It should be known that the preliminary investigation in France does not imply the formulation of criminal charges. And large technology companies that operate in multiple countries offering online services often face these types of challenges with the European tax authorities. Now we only have to wait for the results obtained in these records and if any signs of alleged tax and labor fraud by Netflix are found.
