Movistar, MasOrange and Vodafone resort to Starlink Internet in some points until the connection is restored after DANA

The work of the operators does not stop. The giants Movistar, MasOrange and Vodafone continue their work to recover 100% of the connection service after the DANA natural disaster. And after the passage of this storm, many areas have been left without a mobile and fiber network connection, making it impossible for citizens to have access to the Internet. Something that is already changing, since the telecos have managed to restore a large percentage of the affected infrastructures.

DANA has caused the Internet connection in the affected areas to drop completely. However, in recent days, operators have launched different mobile units in the affected towns so that users can have an Internet connection. Even, in some cases, it has been resorted to offering satellite services via Starlink in order to provide service in those areas where it is more complex to provide an alternative option.

Operators continue to restore fixed and mobile lines

The big brands do not stop in their efforts to restore 100% of fixed and mobile lines in the areas affected by DANA. On the part of MasOrange, the company reports that the service has been recovered for 85% of the affected customers and they continue with the recovery in Albal and Paiporta in fixed communications, while in Alaquàs, Paiporta and Sedaví they continue with mobile work.

In addition, as reported by the teleco, up to 5 portable mobile stations have been established and are already operating in the towns of Aldaia, Paiporta, Cheste, Montserrat and Siete Aguas. There are even two last ones sent by the Orange Group from France with extended WiFi and satellite link. And another 4 extra stations are expected to be installed in the coming days in Albal, Paiporta, Massanassa and Catarroja.

In the case of Vodafone, 80% of the mobile network and 81% of the telecom fixed network have been restored in the affected areas. Mobile units have been deployed while ‘Instant Network’ is being installed to provide free WiFi network and also has charging points for phones in the localities. And, on the part of Movistar, the Telefónica operator has managed to restore more than 92% of the fixed infrastructures and more than 65% of the mobile infrastructures.

Despite all the effort, Movistar and MasOrange have had to use WiFi networks with a Starlink satellite link, although this is an expense faced by telecom companies. And not only this, but there are individuals who have been in charge of purchasing antennas from Elon Musk’s company to send them to the affected areas and thus be able to help the affected municipalities.

Getting back to 100% will take time.

There is no doubt about the great work that is being carried out so that users can have a connection. Not only because of temporary solutions or portable mobile network units that are usually used to decongest networks at different times, but also because the technical teams of these companies continue working to fully restore communications.

However, it is not something that will be achieved overnight, since nodes and cell towers must be recovered and fibers that have been broken after DANA must also be merged. From their respective X accounts, Movistar, Vodafone and MasOrange update daily the different news regarding the recovery of their services. So it’s a good way to keep an eye on it.
