Microsoft has had to act urgently to stop Windows 11 updates in its 24H2 version on the computers of users who have some recent games installed. The problem lies in all the errors, crashes and inconveniences that are occurring with these titles, among which are some of the most important of the year.
Microsoft’s thing with Windows 11 updates is being a blast. The company has a long list of incidents that it has registered in recent months and that seem to have no end. Although a few days ago some problems had already been detected with the latest update, now an additional one has been added that is more critical. So much so that the company has decided to stop updates on computers that could be affected.
Problem with Ubisoft games
If you do not have any Ubisoft games installed on your computer, with some exceptions that we will discuss later, you have nothing to worry about. And, luckily, the problem is not occurring with all Ubisoft games. Just some of them. More specifically, so far the problem has been detected with five different games: three installments of the Assassin’s Creed franchise and two titles that are recent and have enjoyed a high level of success.
Users who have any of these games have reported on Reddit and on Microsoft’s own forums about crashes while trying to play. They have also reported unexpected game closures and sound problems that are less problematic, but do not help to enjoy a good gaming experience either.
From what some users say, the problems occur specifically at certain times, which, unfortunately, are very common. For example, in Assassin’s Creed Origins when trying to use fast travel or when trying to open the skills menu. The other Ubisoft games with problems are Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Star Wars Outlaws. For the latter, Ubisoft itself has published a patch that temporarily solves the problems while they continue working on a definitive solution. They warn about how, even with the patch, some problems could occur that, however, will be resolved soon.
Ubisoft has also mentioned that they are investigating the problems in other games, so it seems that this error with Windows 11 could be solved by companies in the gaming sector. In any case, it remains to be seen if Microsoft makes a move and helps the situation be resolved quickly to avoid further conflicts. Meanwhile, some users mention that they also suffer these problems with games from the Far Cry saga, which has also been created by Ubisoft.
Problems with other games too
Although it has been widely reported that the problem is related to Ubisoft games, the truth is that users are already publishing information about errors with other titles. For now the list includes some well-known games around the world such as Call of Duty Warzone. Players report unexpected closures of the program and even receiving messages indicating that Activision has banned their account upon detecting certain irregularities. This has also been detected with Call of Duty: Vanguard and apparently with other installments of the Call of Duty franchise, about which players indicate that they are having a lot of problems since updating to Windows 11.
At the moment, Activision has not commented and it would be in the company’s hands to take measures to prevent the incidents from escalating. For its part, Microsoft has made the decision to block updates on computers where it detects Ubisoft games and asks users not to update the operating system manually.
