What a surprise, Microsoft releases a Windows 11 update and something fails, we can’t believe it. Irony aside, many users are highlighting that they have significant problems with the clipboard history. If you have installed Windows 11 24H2 and you see that the history function within the clipboard does not work correctly, we are going to explain how you can fix the problem quickly and easily.

As you well know, Microsoft annually releases two large update packages with many new improvements and features. Among the most notable of 24H2 is the support for Wi-Fi 7 and the deployment of Copilot+, the AI assistant.

The truth is that you should not be in a hurry to install Windows updates. It is typical for first users to report various operating and/or performance problems. Many users are precisely reporting problems with the clipboard history, which does not save the information as it would normally.

Repair clipboard history

A very interesting feature within Windows 11 is the clipboard history. What it allows us to do is store data for later in the background. But, it seems that the 24H2 update generates a malfunction, not saving any information, therefore leaving the history blank.

If we access the history we will see that it tells us that nothing has been copied so far. It makes no difference whether you carry out the process once or a hundred times, the result will be the same: nothing.

Microsoft has highlighted that they are working on a solution, which may arrive tomorrow or within a month. But, the good news is that there is a fairly simple way to correct this problem without having to wait for the company to fix it.

You should know that this error is not general, but rather affects some systems with Windows 11 installed. There is no pattern, at least, that has been detected. The good thing is that we are going to teach you how to correct it, since it is a fairly easy process.

The first step to solve this problem is to open the Settings panel of the operating system itself. Once the window opens, we go to the System option and inside we will look for the Clipboard option, which is one of the last options.

Next, we must activate the Clipboard History which allows us to enable the “Windows + V” shortcut to be able to access it and store different elements that we may need later. Then, you must go to the Recommended actions option and click on the switch to deactivate this option. Don’t close the window.

Now, you need to open the clipboard to check the history of the stored items. After this, we can close it and now activate the Recommended Actions switch. This action will not break the clipboard again, so don’t worry.

Double check that everything is working correctly, just in case. If the problem persists, disable Recommended Actions and also the device synchronization option.

It seems that the update generates some type of conflict with the default configuration existing at the time of installation. This seems to prevent the operating system from ‘remembering’ the things we saved at this point. We’ll see when Microsoft releases a definitive fix for the problem.
