Going to the zoo with the kids? Then take these zoo apps with you on the iPhone and iPad, so that you always have a map and starting times of the shows. Which Dutch zoos have a handy app and what can you do with it? You can read that here!

Zoo apps show the way

A day at the zoo is fun for everyone. With the zoo apps in this overview you can plan your visit, consult the map and read more information about the animals on display. We have made an overview of the best Dutch zoo apps.

  • Zoo apps
  • Blijdorp
  • Beek Mountains
  • Gaia Zoo
  • ZooMobile

Zoos have moved with the times, but the idea is still the same. Animals that normally stay in faraway places can be observed from a safe distance after a tram ride with an ice cream in hand. You would think that every zoo has an iPhone app, with routes and background information about the animals present, but that is not the case. When compiling this list, for example, it turned out that Artis no longer has an app. We therefore look at zoos that do have a nice app. Would you rather go to an amusement park? We also have a list of fun theme park apps for the Netherlands and Belgium.

Blijdorp Zoo

Visitors to Diergaarde Blijdorp can enrich their journey of discovery through the zoo with the Blijdorp app. Use the interactive map in the app to walk through the park at home and during your visit, map out a route, find your favorite animals and learn more about them. Of course you can also find information about restaurants and other facilities. The app keeps you informed of all current events in and around Diergaarde Blijdorp, such as news, shows and feeding times. Turn on the alarm function so you don’t miss anything.

Beek Mountains

With the Beekse Bergen app for iPhone you can plan your day at the Safari Park or to Speelland. With this app you get to see all the information, view an extensive map and discover everything about animals in the Safari Park. The app also shows the current opening hours of restaurants, shops, feed presentations and more. You can plan an overnight stay in Beekse Bergen or change your reservation via the app.

The latest feature in the app is recognizing the animals you see. You also get interesting facts on screen and the app shows where else in the park the animal can be seen. This way you always have a ranger with you. The app uses deep learning to recognize animals.

GaiaZOO

GaiaZOO is the zoo of Kerkrade. The app contains practical tips and an extensive map of the Taiga, Rainforest, Savanna and Limburg areas. It also includes an interactive game that lets you learn more about the animals by playing the GaiaQuiz. Discover all the nice places with the interactive map and the handy alerts ensure that you don’t miss a feed moment. You can also view the daily program, look up restaurants and first aid and consult general information about parking, route and opening hours.

ZooMobile

No time to go to the zoo yourself? Then you can play this simulation game (but watch out for the in-app purchases). You build all kinds of enclosures for the animals and decorate everything to your own liking. This way you ensure that the zoo is attractive to visitors and you receive sufficient income. You can take care of animals, breed animals and make virtual friends. Zoo Mobile originated from the browser game My Free Zoo, but no longer has a notification for it.
