Users with smart devices at home, whether refrigerators, lights, televisions or thermostats, will already be able to manage and control them more easily thanks to the artificial intelligence of Google, Gemini. Although these options were already available previously in the Google Preview program, it is now when Google has announced that in the coming weeks it will introduce this default function for all users.
In the coming weeks, you will be able to download the Google Home extension for the Gemini mobile app, Google’s AI. Thanks to this extension, the Virtual Assistant Gemini will have a certain degree of control over compatible smart house devices in your home.
Their possibilities will be somewhat limited for security reasons, however, you can issue orders such as ‘put the thermostat at temperature to sleep’, ‘the volume rises’ or ‘lights the lights of the sofa’.
As indicated by sources from the sector, Gemini will be able to perform “convenience” functions in conjunction with these smart house devices, while orders that can entail some safety risk, such as open a door, will continue to be blocked for Gemini, which in those cases will limit itself to automatically open the Google Home app for the user to perform the action from there. This will happen, for example, if you ask Gemini to perform a camera action or unlock an intelligent lock.
Other smart devices that can be coupled to Gemini are coffee machines, washing machines or fans.
The smart devices that you can use with Gemini will be those you have registered in your Google email account. It was in November last year when Google introduced these functions in its Google Preview program, or in Spanish, public prior view. After a few months of checks by the company, now Google activates these functionalities for all users.
Examples of actions
In this way, you can save you between different screens from your mobile to start an action, but it will be as easy as talking to Gemini. As mentioned since 9to5google, some examples of orders that you can ask their artificial intelligence are:
- Fix the dining room for a romantic dinner.
- Regulates the air conditioning at a comfortable temperature to sleep.
- Turn the TV and bedroom lights.
- The sunlight is too intense in the living room (to close the curtains).
- Help me with the cleaning of the kitchen (to start aspiring).
Google has not specified the exact date on which the Google Home extension for Gemini will be available in each country, so over the next few weeks we will have to manually check if we already have access to the new tool. The route to follow, both in iOS and Android mobiles, will be Gemini app> Extensions menu> Google Home. At the moment, the extension menu is only available in English.
A requirement to use it will be to have activated the “Gemini applications”, as reported by Google in a Support page.
With this novelty, Google manages to advance in front of the Amazon Competitora, from Amazon, an assistant who also serves to control intelligent home devices.
