The streaming platform Amazon Prime Video long ago surpassed Netflix in subscribers within Spain. It is one of the most complete options that exist, since it not only offers audiovisual content. And, what’s more, it is also one of the cheapest. However, there are Spanish users who prefer not to register and pay for the purchase or rental of specific titles.

Not everyone knows this, but the truth is that it is not necessary to have an Amazon Prime membership to use Prime Video. The company itself says so on its website. Although not all the titles in the streaming platform’s catalog are available if you do not pay a monthly or annual subscription to the premium plan, there are movies (no series) that you can watch if you buy or rent them.

If you have ever been part of Amazon Prime, you will have realized that there are feature films that do not fall within the usual rate, but rather you have to pay for them separately. This audiovisual entertainment content is still available even if you do not subscribe. Therefore, there is no need to pay for the premium plan if what you are interested in is buying or renting.

You will only have to enter the website www.primevideo.com and log in with your Amazon account or register. Then, it’s as easy as clicking “Rent” or “Buy.” As expected, you will have to have provided some payment method to the e-commerce platform, but you will not necessarily be required to sign up for Amazon Prime.

The Amazon Prime Video offer to buy or rent is very extensive. We can see from films that have recently been released, such as Bitelchús, Breaking the circle, Deadpool and Wolverine or Alien Remulus, to titles that were a success on screens and we want to see again and again, such as Barbie, Oppenheimer, Les Miserables, Inside out, or Before you.

Differences between buying and renting on Prime Video

As you can imagine, the option to buy a title on Prime Video means that you keep the content in your “Purchased and Rented Titles” library forever. However, there is a possibility that the film may no longer be available on the streaming platform for purchase and rental. In that case, you would lose it from your Amazon account.

There are titles in which you can choose the resolution, between UHD (Ultra High Definition), HD (High Definition) and/or SD (Standard Quality). Sometimes the price is the same and other times it depends on the image quality chosen, so it is something that you should take into account when purchasing.

On the other hand, Amazon also offers the possibility of renting a feature film (with the same resolutions as the purchase option). In that case, you will be able to enjoy the movie in the next 30 days and you will have up to 48 hours to finish it once it has started. This means that you will have a month to activate the playback of the content, but, once done, you will have to consume it within two days before it disappears.

There are times when some Prime Video audiovisual titles may be on sale. For example, for Halloween, Amazon offered up to 30% off a wide variety of scary movies, including Smile, The Pope’s Exorcist, and Casper. According to the company, the price savings are made taking into account the cost of the film in the last 90 days.

Of course, the free Prime Video catalog is worth it. There are many who prefer to pay for Amazon Prime to have access to more things. But if you are only interested in a specific title and it is one to rent or buy, the function is enabled without having to pay a premium membership.
