How to Create the Pencil Drawing Effect from a Photo in Photoshop
To get you started with my tutorial, you can learn how to create pencil drawing effect from a photo in Photoshop. The first thing we are going to do is open our program, once it is open we go to the upper tab and choose the Files tab. This to search for the photo or image, with which we are going to create the pencil drawing effect.
When selected, it will appear in our worksheet, now we are going to duplicate this image or layer. We’re going to do this with the keyboard shortcuts, so we’re going to press the Ctrl key and the J key.
If we look at the right part of the screen, we will find that the new layer has been created, we will remind you that to work with each layer, you have to select it first.
We will remove the saturation from this new layer, we will do this using the keyboard shortcuts again. But now we are going to press the Ctrl, Shift and U keys, if that doesn’t work for you, you can go to the top menu. There they select the Image tab, then click on Adjustments and finally choose the Desaturate option.
Using the different Photoshop tools
Once this operation is done, we are going to duplicate this layer, to do this we press the Ctrl key again and then the J key. And it will show us on the right that we have created a new layer. On this new layer we are going to invert the colors, to do this we will use a new keyboard shortcut and press the Ctrl key and then the I key.
After doing this, we are going to go to the right side and above the layers we will find the Normal option. We clip on it, several options will be displayed and we will choose Color Dodge. This action will make the image all white, now we go to the top menu and select the Filter tab.
Then we will select the Blur option and then Gaussian Blur, this would allow us to see the photo with the pencil drawing effect. But in the Gaussian Blur window that appears, we can make adjustments so that the photo takes the look we want, when you’re done, we clip Ok.
Now we are going to go to the side menu that is on the left side and select the magnifying glass icon. Right clip it and then choose the Sub Expose Tool option.
Then we go to the top menu and adjust the Exposure and brush size and then hover over the entire image without releasing the clip and in this way we have finished the pencil drawing effect in Photoshop.
