The day has come! From today you can use your free Renfe commuter and medium-distance pass corresponding to the third quarter of this year. As you surely remember, they can be purchased from August 1 and you can use them from now until December 31. What should you take into account if you have one of these subscriptions?

The good results achieved by the Spanish Government with the introduction of free transport vouchers led to the decision to expand it for another year. This is how this initiative is also being enjoyed in 2023, whose main objective is to help reduce dependence on private transport. Next, we indicate what you should do to get the most out of your fertilizer.

How do I get it?

But before we get into it, we want to review the basics because it is possible that you do not have your subscription and that you have to obtain it first to be able to benefit from what it provides. The process is simple, so you will see that it does not have any difficulty. You have to start by registering, either in the Renfe app or on the entity’s official website. Once you register, all you have to do is go to the station ticket office or even use a vending machine.

The subscription is priceless, but requires you to leave a deposit of 10 euros for the Cercanías and one of 20 euros for the Media Distancia. The best thing is that you make the deposit of those 10 euros with your credit card, because that way, when the validity period ends, the refund will be made directly to it. From there you will have your subscription and you can use it at will by following the instructions that we give you in the following sections. The video that we have attached above this paragraph will help you understand what we have explained to you in a more visual way.

So you can take advantage of it

As much as the subscription is being offered to you for free, there are a series of aspects that you have to take into account in order to use it. First of all, and this is important, you should know that the trains that do not require a prior reservation do not require you to do anything at all. You get on the train and that’s it. Your subscription is already guaranteeing the trip for free. However, remember that not all medium-distance trains work without reservation, so you will have to make sure first to know that you are complying with the rules and not run into any problems.

That said, the Government places special emphasis on how important it is that you use your subscription responsibly. Since you will have to make reservations for the trips you plan to take, it is requested that you only make reservations that you know you will use. There is a risk of thinking that, since they are free reservations, you can make them haphazardly without any repercussions. The truth is that this is a problem for other travelers, so it is recommended that, if you make a reservation that you are not going to use, you cancel it.

In this way the seat will be free and can be used by another person. Also, be very careful, because there is a limit of three times in which you can commit this foul. Later, it is indicated in Renfe that it would be understood that you would be using your season ticket fraudulently. That would cause them to cancel your subscription and you would not recover the deposit.

It is also important that you validate your trip. Because? Because there is a condition for you to recover your deposit of 10 euros at the end of the subscription period. This is the need to have made, at least, a total of 16 trips. Usually, the passes are validated when you start the trip, but there are situations in which you would also have to do it at the end of the trip. It would be appropriate for you to make sure in each case in order to know that there is evidence that you have enjoyed the reservation you made.

Another of the conditions of use is that you will not be able to formalize more than four trips a day, counting the round trip within the same day. And you cannot exceed the seat reservation limit that has been established, which is marked by triple the duration of hours of the trip that you have formalized first.

There are many aspects to remember, but in the end, it is an initiative that is worthwhile and that will allow you to travel in a really comfortable way without having to pay. To answer additional questions or ask questions about train delays, we recommend you access Renfe’s website or consult the telephone number 919191567. Remember that you have until December 31 to enjoy it, so do not hesitate to get your subscription and start traveling for free.
